Looking for some advice im taking my driving test next Wednesday and I'm hoping to pass first time

I have been thinking for a while what to get and been adament on getting a small van like a Berlingo or a Kangoo or Partner, but do you think an estate car would be a better option

Opinions would be great thanks

Got a Ford Focus CMAX here.

Loading is ok, but getting tight with 4 Speakers..

However, I have 2 children, if you don't have these accessories, then I'd go for a Van with sliding side doors...

I am not sure which one it is but one of the 'van' type vehicles has seats in the back that fold flat and I think has a sliding sidedoor. Its either the Kangol or Berlingo.

I remember thinking about one myself a while back.I would go for that even if I had children as it is a tidy vehicle.

This is not a rehearsal

This is it - grab it while you can.

I don't have any kids so thats not a problem just wondering what would be more practical

I have a Fiat Doblo. Great for kids in the back and at the weekend you can fold down the seats and it is literally a van! + it is has the sliding doors.

Downside in my opinion it's a blinkin ugly van!

A van will be cheaper to run and to insure.

You just need to think whether or not this is your only vehicle. When not dj'ing do you really want to go cruising in a van? I'd suggest an estate as it will cover both functions.

Not all estates are suitable though. You need to find a model where the back seats go all the way down. Those that dont are a real pain in the ...

Ignoring image for a moment and looking at practicality consider a Volvo estate. They will run forever and high mileage models are still reliable. You should also get most of your money back when you upgrade.

Some people just buy an ordinary car, fit a towbar and stick their gear in a trailer.

There have been posts on here recommending against advertising on your van as it attracts thieves and police on the run home, so cross that off your decision making list.

They use to be good cars. I knew of Volvos with 500,000 miles on the clock and still going strong but that was a long time ago. Build quality suffered, then ford bought volvo :( I would never touch one now.

I use a 1999 Citroen Dispatch 1.9td - sliding door on either side, thristy and expensive tax though. Couldt imagine even trying to get all my gear in an estate car.

I use a Mondeo estate which suits me down to the ground practicality wise - 2 kids and a Mrs to ferry around, it's a decent cruiser for the occasional runs back to the Midlands which I have to make plus My entire rig fits in there with room to spare. I am looking at changing to a short wheelbase VW T4 Transporter as soon as funds permit though, reasons being more load space PLUS I really fancy carrying out a camper conversion.

I currently have a ford escort estate ..old but reliable like its owner :D

next year my wife will hopefully pass her test and we will get a small car for normal use and i am after a transit van ..finding one that is not a rust bucket for a low price is the challenge.

If want a smaller mpv thats cheap to run and you really dont care about your street cred then have a look at the suzuki wagon r

the rear seats fold totally flat leaving a cargo area with is about 4 feet wide 4 feet high and 5 feet long. My mrs had one and i used it a few times.

Example You would be better off with the 1.3 as opposed to the older 1.0 and 1.2 models

just a thought

I have a Vauxhaul Meriva - with the seats folded down it is completely flat, and the gear slides straight in.

Also, the "special" model has dark tinted rear and side windows, so people cant easily see what you have in there.

Also, useful for going camping with the family (including kids etc) ;o)
