vokf 0
Working at last! Got a local Wedding. We are booked from 7:30 - 00:00, and were planning on getting to the venue for 6pm.. B&G contacted us a few weeks ago... the Venue said we cannot get into the room until 7:00pm.. As there are about 200 guests, we'll need the subs... so set-up will take at least 40mins, so we probably won't hit their 7:30 start. I've suggested we'll get the sound up first with some background music whilst we sort out lighting and tidy up. Not ideal, but we'll do our best. Over to you! Jas

Teez 0
Shhhhhhh, don't let Rob hear you :scared: I know.... scary! On karaoke nights I am not a DJ, merely a button pusher, a note reader. Yes maybe a bit of compering but people only remember the DJ if he did something wrong, not for much else. I know some will disagree :joe:

deejaymitch 0
Last night was meant to be a nice relaxing night off until I got a phone call at about 7.15pm asking if I was free. The bar where I have my Saturday night residency is part of a hotel which had taken a booking for an 18th birthday party in the nightclub last night, but hadn't organised a DJ. So I said I would help them out and went down. As I was using the in-house lights and sound system, set-up was straightforward so I up and running before any guests arrived, pumping out some Rock Sugar for my own enjoyment. It turned out to be quite a frustrating night in the end. I'd say at the peak there were 30-40 people in the club. I checked with the door staff afterwards as often at 18th birthday parties a lot of the invited guests get turned away at the door because they are underage, but no one was turned away last night, there just weren't many due to come. So, obviously, the atmosphere wasn't exactly buzzing. I was then approached by a member of the 'crowd' who turned out to be 3 of the worst party guests rolled into 1. You know the way you always get (i) the older relative (aunt probably) who knows what will get 'everybody' dancing; (ii) the idiot who says "play something decent" but can't specify a track; and (iii) the guest who utters the immortal words "i'm a dj too". Well, yep, this one person was all three of those!!! I played it pretty safe and stuck to current chart and R&B tracks with a generally good reaction, although there were a few baffling moments e.g. I had a busy dancefloor but when I played Rude Boy by Rihanna, it completely emptied!!! That is probably my most requested song at the minute, and I view it as a banker for a good reaction, but last night it completely bombed. I was shocked. But anyway I persisted and some requests started to trickle in, all of which were played. Then disaster struck. The venue is open until 1am every night and, obviously, I was due to play until 1am. But shortly after midnight, the place virtually emptied with most of the guests leaving. By this stage I was just starting to put together my 'big finish' for the night and had put together a nice little playlist for the last 50 minutes. Then shortly before 0030 the birthday boy came and told me I could finish. I was gutted. He was very thankful, said he had really enjoyed the night and gave me a tip, but I felt terrible. All the remaining guests were very polite, and grateful, and said how much they had enjoyed it (even the guest mentioned above), which is great obviously. But I was still distraught that people had left early and I hadn't got to go out with a bang, as planned. I know it's not logical to take these things personally, but it's hard not to. I guess in most jobs you would be delighted to get paid, get a tip, get great feedback and still get to go home early. But, as we all know, this isn't most jobs! Anyway, if you've made it this far, thanks for reading. Got my residency tonight where I definitely will get to play to 1am, and will go out with a bang at the end of the night. Onward and upward!!! Song to play: Nelly The Elephant - Toy Dolls I would have been shocked too if when playing rude boy they cleared the floor as i too see it as a banker of a tune at the moment. some people just don't know how to have fun ..no matter what you try . Last night for me was a little strange the place i was at was dead about 20 people all night with about only ten in early on but they were all up for it , i had a first only three karaoke singers (including me ) so i put on some real hard core cheese and they were all dancing early on in the evening in this pub the faces of people walking in and seeing us all doing oops up side your head at 9:30 was a picture and it built up at the end 1:30 finish only twenty t people with about 12 karaoke singers in the rotation they all left having a fun night BUT devastating from my point of view as i know 20 people doesn't pay my wages but you have to keep plugging away. If you get the wrong crowd there is nothing you can do. luckily for my residencies i seem to get followers who are up for it , but at one offs and functions i have seen this sort who say we had a great night but don't tell there face or visit the dance floor.. Keep your chin up and dont let it get to you matey Rob Rob Star EntertainmentsFacebook pagelandline 0161 265 3421Mobile: 0777 99 777
Dukesy 0
Still busy back and forth darn sarf with the Singing contest. All performers provide their own backing tracks. The 'quality' of most tracks played are 'ok', but one or two songs have either 'stopped' or 'run out' - literally half the song is missing....which has produced some interesting tumbleweed moments... Finaly managed to sort the 'sound' issues with the Bose the other week. Thanks for advice folks. :dukesy:
