No regular poster really Ste - cheers for stepping up!

For me, another weekend with my children. Off to the Zoo :-) Hope to get Ice Cream

I've been building my daughter a new Dual Core Atom based PC. Its a nice little mini-ITX format thing, running Ubuntu (Linux), and just awaiting a monitor to be delivered today.

She's fairly happy using Linux (using my old Laptop for the last 6 months with no problems) - I've installed Chrome (browser), and it comes with Open Office, Thunderbird and I should be able to get Sims3 running.... Then I'll have peace! lol

Oh, and I've got today off work!

DJ wise, still working on DJEP integration (no problems, just playing), chatting to a graphics guy about a my new DJ site. Content is more or less complete, so its really down to visuals now.

Also preping for a wedding next Thursday night.

Thinking about travelling to the seda show on Sunday as I'm thinking about the new flightcase, and my supplier is attending..

Hope everyone else has a good one!

Cheers!

Jason

Did my school prom on tuesday

Friday - Local Pub karaoke night - could be a quiet one, they are struggling a bit but they are slightly to blame, not one poster up!

Saturday - Karaoke & Disco for a 40th - Its in the pub where the 3 songs fill the floor - going to throw some Quo at them this time.

Have updated my karaoke book after some very useful input, cheers for that.

This is a pet hate of mine pubs that can not be bothered..this is what i do

I print a few of my own and laminate them so they don't get thrown away , i also take blu tack in as pubs like that are useless

I set up a facebook group for the pub if they haven't got one , i make posters about joining the facebook group. If they have a group post your nights on it

I take pictures and post them on facebook

I have a chalk A board that i use with karaoke on here tonight etc that i stick outside venues

It is amazing how groups and attendances grow and how you can build up a night from nothing to busy but you do need a pub that is working with you

Thanks for that Rob, excellent ideas. I do however begrudge spoon feeding them with all that, its their business so it SHOULD be up to them but i can see me taking on your ideas. At the end ofthe day if they close i loose business so its certainly worth while investing a bit of effort.

I have just updated my karaoke book and some new props are next, which will give some good pics

Thanks again

An 18th for me tonight, quite looking forward to is as it is a proper function room rather than the marquee I was in for my last gig!

Will be a bit of a culture shock as my laptop sound card is playing up so this will probably be an all CD night, which Ive not done for a while!

Cheers, Mark.

Saturday only this week. A wedding at what was quite a nice venue, but now they've linked it with a bridge over to the local "nightlife hub" which makes it a little more hardwork to load up as you've got all "young 'uns" trudging past!

Another night where the B&G have requested a lot more untypical wedding tracks - 90s dance, brit pop, indie and modern dance.

More and more of these are happening, with more and more guests enjoying themselves and not asking for the tracks we sometimes often play.

Was asked for a card and they all seemed to enjoy it (apart from the "older people" who went and sat down - but a fullish dance floor all night...

I think that reflects on the new age weddings. The modern client aged 25 to 30 wants a bit more alternative music as thats what they were brought up on. I recall a wedding last summer where i was playing Disturbed, Gorgol Bordello, Prodigy, Pendulum, Queens of the stone age etc. A more recent one was a lot of cheesy 90's dance tunes with the likes of Outhere brothers, Vengaboys etc etc

You do want to crack on with the traditional stuff like Abba, Motown and 70's for the older guests but i think those days are going by the wayside

Sounds like you did the job as its hard trying to cater for everybody with such a difference in taste

Friday night was a charity fundraiser for a local Special Needs School. A pub quiz followed by a bit of a disco. Went pretty well, recently it really seems like the less I'm getting paid, the more fun I have, which is slightly worrying.

Saturday was in my residency. For the last year I'd been promised a new DJ box to work in (which was one of the reasons I agreed to go back to the venue, and then agreed to stay after threatening to leave twice). Well, they built a shelf. Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely shelf. But it's not "fit for purpose" as they say. It's nothing like what was discussed, and it's in completely the wrong place. There have been a few other incidents in the venue recently that I'm not happy about and that, coupled my general attitude at the minute, made me decide last night that I was going to quit. Then of course, out of nowhere, a lot of my old regulars just happen to come in last night, as well as a new crowd of regulars I've built up and, despite me trying to look as disinterested and lazy as possible, they go nuts for the chessiest rubbish and I have a busy dancefloor for most of the night. Don't know what to do now.

I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.

Karaoke/Disco at the Sgts Mess where I work. Last minute booking on Thursday that I managed to get. I got a phone call to say the Warrant Officer that used to do had been posted and there were two volunteers(?) trying to sort it out. I went over to help and they ended up booking me which was a bonus.

Just had to take my laptop, karaoke books and slips they had all the lights and PA kit there. It was a good night and hopefully I'll get more bookings out of it
