Weekend 21st - 23rd May 2010

Recommended Posts

Thought I'd get this started early.

I have 2 gigs;

1. Thursday night; Wedding in Essex. Its a Barn, and we're providing our uplighting service.

I now have a small DMX controller thats fairly simple for my small brain.. 6 sliders and a few buttons.

We'll be setting the LED Par cans to Ch1 and Ch2, so the sliders will be;

RGB (Ch1 Cans) RGB (Ch2 Cans).

First dance is "Amazed", 2nd dance is "Don't Stop me Now". I vaguely know the family (I've done a 60th and 30th for them), so expect a good one.

I'd say 80% of my weddings have "Amazed" as their 1st dance.. I'm starting to learn the words... :( lol

I provided the Bride with a log-in to my DJ EventPlanner a few weeks ago, and have a nice page of cheese to get through.

There is also a guest log-in and I can see a few of her guests have also added songs (nothing too obscure).

Looking forward to rolling out the new site next month.

2. Saturday Night; Awards night for a small local football team. This is a pub gig (in my local).

Was booked fairly last minute (last month), and should be fun.

I'm providing Mic+PA for the awards bit, then music for the rest of the night.

Will be uplighting a bit in the teams colours.

I've try to post photos of both gigs!

Over to you!

2 gigs for me too this weekend but unfortunately they are both on saturday night

Im doing a 50th dressed as a jester - dont ask

MouseAT (Andy) is playing after a band at a local football club summer ball - doing this one cheap as they do a lot of local community work

Lots of running around and carrying heavy gear but fortunately the gigs are within 1/4 mile of each other.

Well mine began last night with my student residency at Revolution Newport. Was quiet compared to normal due to them being on exams, but was still very busy for a midweek night so cannot complain (Hopefully can upload some photos soon.) I'm back at the same venue tomorrow night, but the music is rather different on a Friday .

Nothing on Saturday at the moment as I have only just recently returned to mobile gigs so unless something very last minute comes in I will be getting drunk and hopefully witnessing Cardiff City reach the Premiership.

Sunday I will be doing my normal quiz night

Doesn't appear Jason chose a track to play for this week so hope he doesn't mind me selecting one.

Hmm how about SL2 - On A Ragga Tip. Been a while since I gave it an airing

Freebie on saturday night, my sisters 21st, she has asked me to just put the PA and lighting in and leave a mix of tunes on, and have a few drinks myself, will see how it pans out. Turned down a paying gig but would have had to turn it down anyway to attend the party so its all good

SL2 - great tune... :-)

Possibly could have played at the wedding last night, but can 100% play tomorrow at my local, they love a decent 90's set!

Looking forward to giving my new Pioneer kit an outing. I did use it last weekend but was a Masonic Ladies evening so rather reserved and only played for an hour or so.

The oldest swinger in town....... probably. Happy Easter.. well I have seen easter eggs in the shops

I've got some paperwork to sort out this weekend for some upcoming gigs / enquiries, other than that I'm making an effort on the website / logo design and copy, because my current holding page really sucks at the minute!

DJ'd at blackpool pleasure beach last year, and PLI was the only thing needed, This year they need PAT details (thats fine), and a Risk Assessment...

Cheers,

David...

Tonight I'm doing a fund-raiser in a local Social Club for a reduced fee. Have been looking forward ot it until I heard last night that the girl who is organising it has a sister who is also having a birthday party in another venue. They are of a similar age and work in the same place, therefore the same people have been invited to both. My function is in a Social Club with no other bars near it. The birthday party is in a popular bar in the town centre that does a £1 per drink deal on Friday nights (£5 entry fee), and is in close proximity to lots of other popular venues. So you can guess which event the guests are going to go to first, just to show thier faces, before going to the other one. :wall:

Tomorrow night it's back to the residency :( which I am thrilled about. I am slightly excited in case a certain little group of semi-regulars call in tomorrow though, because they go nuts for "On A Ragga Tip". Great choice!!! Whatever you are all doing, have a good one!!!

I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.

Well just finshed my double whammy gigs, the gear is unpacked and its time to sit down. Ive been running aroud like a loon since 3pm and its been chuffing hot. At my gig i had dancers practically hugging my pedastle fan, gently swaying as opposed to dancing. It was fancy dress which made thigs worse.

bit of sleep then off to a guitar show to drool at shiney stuff

Oh and one of my new datamoons packed up mid gig, fan on - yes, lamp on - yes, gobo spinning - yes, light output - no

Was supposed to have done a 40th Birthday Saturday but Elaine was rushed into hospital :(

We are waiting for tests to be carried out as she has lost use of her right leg again.

Sorted out a replacement DJ using my gear and I did the last hour much to the surprise of the birthday girl.

Managed to play my selection of 80's club classics to round off the evening ending of the full 12" version I found lovin' which was on the must play list.

Haven't seen so many people singing their hearts out to that tune for many a year.

Thursdays Wedding went ok. Hard work, as it was a really nice day and there was a courtyard with Tables etc. Why spend the night in the barn, when you can sit outside, chat and smoke?

So, we had busy and quiet times. We did get some up-front requests from our online music planner, but the music was left mainly to us, and we provided custom music request sheets (styled the same as the invites).

The last hour was a busy dancefloor, with lots of late 90's and the usual GnR/Bon Jovi/Reef keeping them going.

The venue was "The Ried Rooms";

http://www.thereidrooms.co.uk/

Friendly staff, easy access (apart being miles for anywhere!), and scary amount of plug sockets... great for our uplighting service.

No real height restrictions, so guys with overhead trussing would not have a problem.

Also, no requests for PLI/PAT. I carry this info in the car anyway, but we basically walked in - manager didn't start until 7 (when we needed to start music!), so we cracked on with set-up.

Despite offering the meet the B&G at the venue before the day, this was not offered, and so we took the 4-speaker system. It wasn't needed, a 300W system would be fine here. Although, it's nice to have good quality Bass, even if the levels are not that high.

This was our first uplighting system with DMX control. She provided a bit of ribbon to colour match, and as Pink wasn't a pre-set on our ParCans anyway :damn: , matching the colour was easy.

I recently purchased a cheap DMX controller specifically for the uplighters -6 sliders and easy to use.

For the 1st dance/ballads, we used a 2nd DMX controller to put a very slow spin on the DynaRoll. This provides a "mirrorball" type effect with white(ish) light. For normal lighting, I left it in Sound-Light mode..

Other lights were 2 x DynaTwins, and also the 1st lights I brought.. some little 100W moonflowers :-)

Carmen took photos, they are on our private online gallery (password protected), and we'll be posting a DVD to the B&G in the next few days.

We do have permission to use the photos for our own marketing, so will be added a few to the new website.

Looks good Jason, would like to see some more pics after you have passed them on.

I use the elation led par can controller as opposed to a proper dmx controller as its plug and play. My only gripe is that you only have the option of having everything 1 colour at a time which is not ideal when the cans are on the rig facing the crowd.

proper DMX one day when i really have nothing else to do
