Top 5 Songs

Hi Guys,,i have been asked to play 5 songs from the 70s,80s, 90s and 00s for an up and comming 50th birthday party soon. My problem is condensing great decades down to just 5 songs,,any ideas?

Pretty difficult!

 

For me, I'd stick with Safe (in the absence of any other info!), and go for tracks that sum up each decade.

Checking a few sites for "best selling artists" may help (which is what I briefly did below)

 

For 70's;

Queen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Wings, Bee Gees, Earth Wind & Fire

 

For 80's;

Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Wham, Dexy's Midnight Runners

 

For 90's;

Aqua, Britney Spears, Take That

 

For 00's;

The Black Eyed Peas, Kings of Leon, Lady Gaga

 

 

ie - try to ensure there is a clearly different sound for each decade.

If the client has given any tips re: music preferences, this may help, but be careful not to pick tunes that muddy the idea of each decade.

So if you go Whitney, don't play "how will I know" (80's), then "always love you" (90's)

 

Now - if their tastes are a bit non-poppy, then lots of chance to go with some edgy tracks, rather than stick with Wham for 80's :-)
