Dukesy 0
Do you promote your disco name at a gig?. What method do you use to do this?, light / sign boxes with your name on them?, printed star cloth?, request slips?, Moving message display? ???? Discuss
Rothgar 0
I've got a powerpoint presentation that runs on my monitor like an advert. Depending on what the function is I'll put out business cards on the tables.
deejaymitch 0
My karaoke books and request cards have my website address on them, as do my quiz answer sheets. Generally though I don't do anything. So I'm looking for some good ideas from this thread please!!! I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.
vokf 0
I've; -Moving sign, looked naff (up for sale if anyone is interested..). -Vinyl banner, looked naff We normally leave request sheets (for music), with subtle mention of our name with contact details. As I find myself printing these off for each party, I now customise them a little (if the client thinks they are a good idea, we often try to get a copy of their invite to colour match/theme) Otherwise, most guest know the party host, and will ask them for our details. It really depends on the gig - something public (ie pub gig) then promote as much as possible within reason, and also promote drink deals in the pub to keep the landlord happy Private parties - I'd personally keep any promotion low-key and the main "promotion" to going a good job and signing off at the end of the night. Robster 0
Depends on the type of gig At weddings i dont .. I tend to try and be as stylish and neat as possible , with no loud brash advertising only cards upon request. At karaoke nights i have slips which have telephone number and web site on the bottom so every request slip is a business card in effect. also the on screen logo rotates with my logo & my website address when in intermission mode ie not playing lyrics. At birthdays etc i put out cards. At residencies i make posters which have all my details and often a facebook group for the residency up on the walls of the gig. I tailor my marketing depending on the event , yes there may be some at a wedding wanting to book me for a birthday or karaoke but i dont want to spoil the look of the gig for the sake of attempting to get more work , the customer that has paid me get priority over the potential ones. Seems to work for me.. but each marketing strategy would depend on what type of gigs you do and what type of customers you wish to attract. Tommo55 0
-Moving sign, looked naff (up for sale if anyone is interested..). Fantastic sales pitch! So I'll give that one a miss then ta! Myself I use request slips left on the tables that have my website address printed on the so I feel they are a discreet method of promotion rather then the banner as the cover all at he front of the rig or moving message board, always have a set of cards ready should anyone ask for them too! Edited August 2, 2010 by Tommo55
stardust 0
I invested a few quid making a sign, proffesional sign writing and breaking up my old white LED curtain (and inserting the led's into the sign) - It looked fairly cool. At the end of the day i could not use it as it just looked cheesy and not cool oohh
wizard 0
No Think it looks cheap, naff, awful, especially at weddings, which is 95% of my work......if anyone is interested in a booking they will ask The oldest swinger in town....... probably. Paul The Party DJ 0
I always put cards on my subs for people. At some events I put them on the tables but only if the client suggests it. I used to have a back-drop but not now. Paul The Party DJ Mobile Disco and Wedding Specialist Southampton & The New Forest
MintyDave 0
Im so rubbish some night its best not to let people know who i am. Only joking of course.... i say im from soundwaves (hope JB is not looking at this) With most of my events my attitude is that its all about the clients and only hand out cards if asked, unless its public functions where i put up a banner, have flyers/cards etc kicking about and any posters i do have my details on. something i need to revisit this backend if i get some free time Richmond Karaoke & Disco - Professional Mobile Disco Service For North Yorkshire - www.rkdisco.co.uk
gadget 0
I don't really promote in anyway at any gig. Maybe leave a few business cards behind the bar if possible. There may be a couple on the mixer too. I'll hand them out if they're asked for otherwise. I guess at public type functions (e.g. summer fair), you could promote yourself with some big background sign if it was allowed.... I also make a point of talking with the manager at the venue and giving him / her a card. I think it is different for other dos but at weddings it looks tacky Jose Saavedra MJS EVENTS Wedding Disco Specialists Mobile: 07734 387 478 Email: mail@mjsevents.com Web: http://www.mjsevents.com PLI (£10m) & PAT Tested equipment Member of the following associations: Federation of Small Busineses & The Wedding DJ Association
DJMickeyk 0
I always carry cards, would never leave them on tables or anything at a wedding, but at a 21st I do ask the client and management if it's ok to leave some discretely on the bar counter. Nobody has ever objected and usually there are quite a few gone at the end of the night. It's hit and miss though whether you will get bookings from it, my karaoke song request slips also have my phone number and website on them, as does my songbook. I have just started video Djing with an 80" projector screen so there is definately an opportunity there, must get a logo done up. www.tipperarypartydj.com
UKHero 0
Yep I promote myself at all gigs and never had a problem with it. I do it discreetly and with tact but I hope that by the end of the night most people in the room know who I was. Nik Niks Roadshow
vokf 0
Hey Nik, Can you tell us how you do this? I often only mention "dance sounds disco" when closing down ie; "....and so Dance Sounds Disco wish you a safe journey home bla bla bla"... For birthday/engagements, I do normally walk out front, introduce ourselves - explain we're happy to take any requests, and if the client has specificed lots of music (playlist), I often mention that too. However, I don't normally mention "dance sounds disco" I find we do get many people coming up for requests, and I'm generally glad that people find us both approachable. So - any tips on how you achieve this could be helpful! Jason
Swingcats 0
I have disco name and website on front of stand, black with white writing, use it all the time and business cards, don't shout over mic though. It's a vinyl bannr, useful when someome throws beer at his mate and down the front of it. e Good Rockin Daddy (Chris) www.swingcats.co.uk Music to dance to from 1930's to NOW! Shake your rude box.
