In the past few years I seem to have amassed an obscene amount of MP3 files that are spread between my main gig external hard drive and across various other external hard drives used to back up my CD collections.

Recently I decided to copy most of them onto my gig hard drive and use ITunes to keep the whole lot organised. The problem is though that I now have multiple copies of some songs, some songs are tagged incorrectly, some songs are not even tagged and some files jump.

Is there an application (Preferably for mac as that's my main work horse these days) that will sort through and identify these problems and either help me fix them or fix them itself.

Thanks for the replay Dennis.

I was chatting to a fellow DJ about my baddly tagged tracks problem (Trackxx, unknown artist, unknown album etc) and he recommended a plugin for ITunes called "TuneUp".

It looks at each of your files and then accesses the GraceNote database to get the tag information.

I'm not sure how it works myself!

I decided to give it a quick whirl on the CD that I got handed at the wedding I did on Saturday.

Out of 10 tracks (And most of them are Turkish dance tracks) there is only 1 track that it cannot recognise!

I was so impressed I paid to get the gold membership for the software ($29.95usd) whiches gives you unlimited access to the software for the rest of your life (or at least for the rest of the software title's life)

I sat down last night for 4 hours (Lost all track of time!) and I averaged about 50 tracks an hour. That's the software examining them, me checking the results to see if they seem right, saving the data, looking for tracks it couldn't get all the information for. All in all a great title, and even though it isn't free, I would recommend it to anyone!

Wow...

Since purchasing the code for the software less than 24 hours ago I have managed to tag 1,475 files. Something I could only achieve in more than a week when I was having to look up all the info myself.

When I was looking all the info up myself I was having nightmares that I would be on with this task for the rest of my life. Hopefully they shall stop now!

That sounds like a great tool DP, might have to investigate it.

I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.

If I remember rightly the free trial lets you clean up 100 track tags and 50 cover art images.

The yearly subscrition is $19.95 or the lifetime is £29.95

Since using it there's only 9 files that it could not identify and about 20-30 that it has got wrong. And that's out of over 2,000 now!
