UKHero 0
It makes no difference to the performance, just the public's perception of that DJ. Sitting down can be seen as being lazy. Personally I never had say down during a performance in 27 years. The public at large or DJs at large. I have said what I do and given a medical reason why. I would say I am standing for 99% of the gig. But I honestly dont see a problem with standing or sitting. Around here years ago one DJ built a special booth that he could sit behind with his decks each side of him and his mixer to the front. It was set up like a radio studio of the day. Im talking 80's here. He was a great DJ and got lots of work.... Has any one on here ever tried sitting down at a gig to see if they get any complaint? or maybe even compliments who knows. So sitting down is perceived as lazy hmmm. What about a DJ with a big set up compared to a DJ who takes in a very small minimal amount of kit is that lazy. I just don't get the snobbery of it myself and how so many have jumped on this thread proud to proclaim that even though their feet and back are hurting they stand all night. I have been a mobile DJ since 1981 when I left school. Up until Christmas 2008 I always stood up since my back op I now sit for small periods of time. Not once has any one looked at me in a disapproving manner or complained and I still receive good comments and many referrals. A DJ standing or sitting can still look bored or interested IMHO. Carmen 0
cool, wish my wife showed more interest in my djing apart from trying to spend the money I earn! LOL if I'm not taking photographs I do begin to feel a bit like a spare part standing there and would prefer to be sitting at the back, maybe on a stool or something. Sometimes if people come up asking for requests at inopportune moments (like just when Jas is trying to mix another song in) then I'll talk to them.
superstardeejay 0
There's nothing better than seeing a DJ dancing behind his decks to the popular tunes Always thought that kind of cheesy, as though the DJ is complimenting himself on his own choice of music! I've always stood up, think a sit-down DJ doesn't look good to the client. .

I've always stood up, think a sit-down DJ doesn't look good to the client. I agree that if the dancing is forced it will be cheesy. If, however the DJ is having a good time and enjoying the music then a bit of dancing helps the blood flow and keeps him in the mood. :joe:
aaadisco 0
I stand up all night and have been known to have a jig behind the decks :-) If I use a roadie, they might sit down which is fine. The good think abouy my DJ stand is that my cased Denon HD2500 which sits on top of it, is at the perfect height for me to DJ. When I have had to use a table provided by the venue, I've always found it is lower than the DJ stand and gives me a really bad back because I am bending over to reach them. If it is an all day wedding, I will stand whenever I am working but during the meal I will leave bg music playing and take a seat somewhere out of the way and prefably with wifi :-) Jose Saavedra MJS EVENTS Wedding Disco Specialists Mobile: 07734 387 478 Email: mail@mjsevents.com Web: http://www.mjsevents.com PLI (£10m) & PAT Tested equipment Member of the following associations: Federation of Small Busineses & The Wedding DJ Association
DJ Foureyes 0
Standing all night for me as well - it feels wrong to me to take a seat. I hear you, brother
Draconic Pride 0
If I'm doing a private function I'll stand all night. At my Friday and Sunday night residency because the way the DJ booth is set up I always get a bad back - and I have a bad back to start with. The height of the wall is rather high as well. Therefore at my residency I always put a high backed bar stool and perch myself on the back of the stool all night to save my back
