End Of August Bank Holiday Weekend (27th-30th)

Recommended Posts

My working weekend started last night (25th)

Every Wednesday I run a music quiz at one of my locals. (8pm-10pm)

Normally I don't work Thursday nights so I can relax before the weekend descends on me but tonight I'm doing a PA hire and teching for a band at a local venue. (7pm-midnight)

Tomorrow is my residency. Fun night, I always enjoy it. Start off with classic rock, bit of dance poop in the middle then see how the night goes. (9pm-2am)

Saturday I'm teching for another band (8pm-11pm)

Sunday is back doing my residency. Same place as Friday night, but totally different crowd, mostly dance stuff and very very little rock. (9pm-1am)

Monday I'm teching for 2 bands and then DJing. Gonna be a long day! (4pm-midnight)

I wouldn't mind if I was getting a bit of change, but each of said gigs are at the same place! Seems I'm becoming part of the fittings there! Me and the missus keep joking that I should get a fold out bed at the back of the dance-floor! I keep saying that when the current owners sell up we should buy it and just live there lol.

I've got my kids- no Gigs this weekend.

Possibly a fun-day in a local pub on Monday I know the guy DJing (mates dad... nothing recent), so may pop over for a chat and lend a hand (and a few CD's!).

Friday - Motown/70s + pop 50th Birthday Party (suprise).

The venue is in a pub function room and about the size of a matchbox. Shame - cos I wanted to stick my new lights up on the newish deckstand.. I just hope I can get the deckstand in there on its own and one t-bar (couple of datamoons only then?). Will have to wait until the next gig to do the whole deckstand & lighting effects!

Hopefully a new pair of ADJ PAR 38's will appear tomorrow, so will try these out too for lighting behind me, and a new Wired Microphone..

Saturday - sleeping after a hectic week of being in London, Go Ape'ing and Friday will probably finish me off!

Cheers,

David

(Still available on Saturday night, but will need notice by 2pm as equipment lives in a managed office/warehouse space that closes at 3pm on saturdays :( )

You're doing well for a man who's not well !!

Quiet one this weekend, just one wedding on the Saturday, PS3 for the remainder I guess...

Most of the time I'm fine, it's just now and then I have really really bad episodes.

Started feeling bad last Tuesday, but felt fine by Tuesday just gone. Quite a short episode this time... I've known it to last a month =(

I am currently sitting in the van at sandridgebury farm outside the marquee where I have just set up.........150 Irish guests have just arrived along with the bride and groom....should be a good party.

Everything is pink, 12 bridesmaids all in pink, table decorations all in pink.....all pink flowers, pink uplighting around the marquee, all my lighting has to be pink for the first dance.......

Hmmmmmm what shall I start with........how about pink - get the party started. :-)

Wifey is mingling taking photographs which are being projected on the screen at the entrance to the marquee. the background music is on......I now have 4 hours to kill after only 4 hours sleep last night it's going to be a long day......who said DJ'ng was an easy living

The oldest swinger in town....... probably. Happy Easter.. well I have seen easter eggs in the shops

Great wedding yesterday at Priory Barns in Little Wymondley, its a lovely barn with a raised stage and the high ceiling meant the moving heads worked really well!

Played the usual mix of genres and was asked to play a set of club classics at the end which went down well.

There was a sound limiter which was set at 95db and it didn't go off, woo hoo! Makes a change to be able to play an acceptable sound volume with these things!

Setup from Friday night - tiny pub function room... for a Surprise 50th Birthday Party...

Just a pair of newly-acquired datamoons on Master/Slave, a new Shure C606 Microphone (10x better than anything I've had ever before), Ultimax deck stand (without the overhead - just look at the height of that ceiling where I', set-up!), new star cloth on static, and also using the Maya 44 USB Sound Card - which to me sounded better than the previous USB effort (Also meant I could preview the next track much much easier) I had a pair of ADJ Par Pro 38's but nowhere really to set them up, so they stayed in their boxes :/

Anyway, sometimes less is more... Photo was taken with the flash set to slow-syncro...

More photos on FB at: Jackie's Surprise 50th Birthday Photos

I took some video and may attempt to put it together later on.

Biggest highlight of the night is request for Bohemian Rhapsody - which everyone was singing along to really loudly - it also got quite a few of them up and dancing/mashing to...

Pub asked me for a business card, and gave out a couple more when I was chatting afterwards. They all had a great night and got a lot of thanks and hugs at the end. The client couldn't thank me enough!

Cheers,

David

new star cloth on static,

I do like your starcloth. It also looks like it's on a frame. Don't you have problems with people knocking the top of those keys?

Where did you get it from?

Cheers

Haha, its a trick of the camera! It was the best of three photos I took of the setup. The star cloth is just one of the 120-all-white-led ones off ebay - 62 quid i think I won it at (plus delivery). attatching it to the deck-stand was interesting - but what I did was get some sticky-backed velcro-loop and attach this to the deck stand top and bottom and do it reasonably tight... worked really well to attach to the stand (takes 30s or so to attach!)...

Cheers,

David

Good one! I just noticed the same effect on the spots. Nevertheless a good potential design.

I wish the market offered a 'pop up' starcloth that clipped onto the front of the table. What's available at the moment isn't that great.

Having also seen the NJD star cloth (Thanks to Rob!), That feels much better quality cloth (serge wool, as opposed to the two cotton sheets stitched together) Although The NJD one has a massive controller box that goes with it, as well as the hand-held controller.. and all for 48-odd LED's...

I think we'd all like "press-a-button-to-unfold" DJ Rigs wouldn't we? :)

Cheers,

David
