Nothing..

Well, I say nothing, I've got a couple of old lights that need repairing and putting on ebay and an Amplifier with a dodgy input which will probably have a dry joint somewhere on the main board..

Some prep for next weekend most likely too... I've not programmed anything into Freestyler yet for any of the lights !

Cheers,

David

Had a great kids party but the night...

The gig was at The Dene, Sunderland where I work part time, and I'm a preferred supplier to. Was passed this couples phone number who were renewing their vows.

Alarm bell: I asked them if would like to meet me at The Dene to discuss things, they didn't want to, so asked if I could send everything in the post as they both worked full time and had children (more about them later...).

Last Saturday I then found out they were arriving at The Dene at 1730, which was the time I agreed to setup. I had asked them if they needed an early setup, to which they said no. If hadn't had a kids party till 1730 though, I would not of setup early, it was more convenient for me that I did.

Alarm bell: Every table had balloons and lots of colouring books and pencils etc.

So all was set up, minus the Kam Par Bar, which I used at the kids party. Put that in then the kids started running in the room. I thought great, hyper kids. I knew from this point that they were not gonna be the type to sit colouring in.

Alarm bell: More guests arrive at the venue for the evening doo, four of which were in tracksuits.

As I usually do, I buy the B&G a drink, to which the bridesmaids (common as muck) chip in and go what about me? How rude.

At this point I looked at the time, and only had being 45 minutes since I started. Kids running about popping every balloon they could, the dance floor was covered. One of the bar staff swept up. Also asking for Eminem and other nana offending music. Although when I played We Speak No Americano, the crowd loved it and was dancing in their chairs. After this, the bride shouted at them. So they move off outside and start playing on the grass. At this point I was thinking shame your playing on the grass and not with the traffic.

At around 8pm 4 guests were removed from the pub for sniffing in the toilets, two of which were the tracksuit brigade.

Buffet served earlyish, compared to normal due to the clients request. Was hoping for a later one, so I could continue playing BGM for a bit longer. No such luck. Most of the food ended up all over the floor from the kids. Buffet cleared up, and the bar staff came along and swept up again.

Started off with a bit of chart, Amy Winehouse, Alesha Dixon, not working. Looking around the crowd all under the age of 30 on average. Played Pink - So What, got a few of the younger kids up with an adult and a couple dancing to it. Followed it with KoL - Sex On Fire, the couple stayed up lost everyone else. So thought a bit rock couple here, so played a bit air guitar which went down well for them. The misses then wanted a fag, so they both left the floor. Time to work again, so played Journey - DSB, and this didn't even get anyone out of their seats. Played just about everything (including a motown which was requested, no one danced). So decided to try 90s dance, the bride got up and shuffled. She was a lady (if I can use that word!) of the larger variety. Actually make that a vehicle of that size would have wide load signs on the back. Two of her friends got up to. Looked at the clock and couldn't believe it wasn't 10pm yet!

Anyway just after she started shuffling, about 3 songs into it, she wants to leave and all of the sudden the rooms empties with about 10 people left. The tracksuit people have gone, bridesmaids etc. Few family members. I'm thinking great! However all of a sudden the atmosphere in the room changed in an instant. It was a pleasure to be there.

Few requests came in, including Commodores - Three Times A Lady, Stevie Wonder - Superstition and MJ - Billie Jean. None generated dancers. Then a guest then asks me to play Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight. This bloke and his wife comes up on the dance floor and has a lovely dance. Followed with Dr Hook - Your In Love With A Beautiful Women and Rod Stewart - Have I Told You Lately. Few more couples shifted up onto the dance floor.

After which as request for Scissor Sisters came in, the rock couple stayed up and everyone sat down. Then played the Dirty Dancing mix, everyone got up had a great time, followed by a the traditional sing a long ending on New York New York. Got a round of applause off the people that were left to the end, which made it all worth while. I didn't get any photos of the crowd however I did get a equipment shot which I will post up when I take it off the camera.

Will also the post the playlist to, which I would like your opioions on, as looking at it now, I'm thinking could I of done it differently. The couple have being sent a feedback sheet, but I'm not holding my breath on it getting returned.
