Just Bought A Cortex Hdc 3000 Usb Controller

Recommended Posts

managed to buy one off ebay today. cant wait to receive it now and try it out.

i will have to start uploading my cd collection onto hard drive. thats going to be fun.

anyone know any good programs that name the songs etc that you upload.

all i need to buy now is a usb keyboard. i have a 250GB hard drive here but i got a feeling it aint going to be big enough.

i would also like to find out whether the numark dds hard drive and cd unit would work with this to upload cd's onto hard drive or does it only work with the dds controller

There are a number of good ripping programs around which will connect automatically to an online database and name the tracks on a CD (assuming they're on the database).

It is certainly possible to rip from the DDS DVD-ROM drive to whatever hard drive is in the DDS unit but this has to be done via a PC (or a laptop).

i didnt know that you had to go through a pc to rip songs on the dds through its dvd player. i just assumed it would rip them staright onto it. thats one of the main features i was interested in the dds system. still might get one or change my mixer to a 4 channel instead

I think you may be getting confused here.

You will be able to rip to whatever hard drive you are using via your pc CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive - you don't need the DDS Drive unit for that.

Why do you need a 4 channel mixer? The Cortex only has 2 stereo outputs.

i was thinkin of a 4 channel mixer and link my dual cd player up to it aswel for a back up incase the cortex fails somehow. and just take a select few cd's to save the night

actually my 3 channel mixer should be ok as if the cortex ever did fail then i could disconnect that from the mixer and use the cd players instead.

by the way im easily confused :joe:

the dds cd and hard drive system looks really neat and at that price its hard to turn down for a spare backup system

I use Exact Audio Copy in Secure Mode, which seems to be pretty good at doing it properly (as long as you use a half-decent compatile CD/dvd drive). In secure mode it will tell you of any extract issues - such as suspicious positions in the track (where it can't actually read the disc). It's also linked to AccurateRip so gives you an idea if it matches other people who've also done a rip of the same disc to see if the data is the same.

Remember Audio CD's have no data correction, so scratches, dust, etc. will cause Bit errors (and therefore pops/loss of audio, etc), so SecureMode & AccurateRip are good ways of telling you if your disc is any good or not...

With regards to size of HDD - I've got about 11,700 tracks (mostly 320k MP3), and its taking up about 96Gb space. 250Gb will give you err, space for 25,000+ tracks at least I'm sure!

I've just got hold of an old 2.5inch 120 gig IDE disc for my DN-HD2500, for the cost of a pint or two, so will avoid having to carry around a separate HDD. The HD2500 will also act as an HDD host as well as Midi Controller+USB Sound card, as well as a media player..

Cheers,

David

Understood. That's what I used to do then changed the twin CD player for a KAM KHD2000 twin USB player.

Just bear in mind that if your Cortex goes down so does your DDS Drive!
