American Wedding

Recommended Posts

I was aguest at wedding in Tuscon Arz last summer,It was on the roof of the Hotel, baking weather (my pale Irish skin was not up for the fight )The meal ended approx 5.30.pm,by the time the place was cleared and the guests mingled it had got dark, the dj had very quietly set up didnt even notice him ,he had a nice rig,no lights, just the moon light and the gentle glow from the hotel lights .He started playing very low volume ,got the first dance out of the way, gradualy increased the volume to very acceptable level,by this time the Irish party ,much to the amusement of the American guests had drunk the free bar dry by 10.00pm 11.00 the night is over,( what the ) In Ireland the craic dosent even start until the band is gone and the dj has started ,come 3.00 am everybody in to the residents lounge and the sing song starts.

12.00 midnight all the local guests went to bed.

The Irish contingent along with some bewilered Mexcians, formed the chairs in the middle of the dance floor and sang dubious Irish and trini lopez songs until God knows when,

what anight.

The locals who joined our singsong never expericenced an Irish wedding before it was the talk of the hotel the next day for what I rememder of it

Next day went down to Tombstone to the Ok Coral

that story is for another day.

ps the dj played some great jazzy mexican music a change from 9 to 5

a good friend of mine married a peruvian girl in new york a few years ago and it was a smilar thing except we all headed to a club afterwards but it broke the continuity of the night

Conversely a good friend of my wife married an american lad in co mayo last summer and myself, the brides family and a good proportion of the american visitors stayed going until breakfast was served at

8am!
