General Equipment Advice Please.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone my name is Simon. Im no DJ and never intend to be anything serious in this area. I have some equipment and generally want to get set up for my own use and friends and family. These are the things I have at the moment and im thinking of a set of Peavey PV 118 subs. The questions I have are What is the best way to connect this lot up? Do I need another amp for the bass bins? and lastly whats all this talk of cross overs :)

I have got these connected and sound ok but am I doing it all right?

Thanks

Simon.

Personally i'd avoid the use of the Jamo speakers, as even the high powered ones are more suited to Home AV / Studio use rather than DJ'ing

If you aren't intending to DJ seriously - ie in large halls and venues, do you really need Subs?, I would imagine that one pair of the speakers in your picture would be enough for home use or small gigs for Family, certainly four speakers would be plenty in this Environment.

You just seem to be over complicating the set up and amount of speakers / equipment for a basic hobby. I would think that you would easy have enough volume for what you want, just from using one pair of speakers, run from one amplifier. You could run two pairs of speakers from one amplifier also, if you wished.

Seperate Amps and Speakers, are generally used for large gigs and mobile events. Unless you have 75 - 100+ people in front of your set up, then two speakers will be enough.

Thanks, The reason I wanted some subs was my son is 21 this summer and we will be having a hall for him and a couple of hundred people. Him and his mates are into different kinds of music so wanted the setup to give him the stuff they wanted to listen too rather than what someone else wants them to listen too. The area where the pictures have been taken in the up stairs in my garage and is quite a small area. The Jamo speakers are not connected its just where they have been stored.

So if I did buy the subs would i need a separate amp for these? Is it ok to run 2 sets of speakers from one amp?

Thanks

Simon.
