Started before you could buy equipment off the shelf - in fact I don't think the term Mobile Disco had even started then. Started with 2 x 18" Goodmans speakers with 12" on top. Amps were kit built 70 watts - quite rugged though. Ended up making gear for other budding DJs and then opened my shop in Canterbury - South Coast Discos, later to be abbreviated to Socodi Music. I wonder if any of my customers are still 'spinning vinyl'. After a couple of years companies like Discosound, Citronic, Pulsar and the like appeared on the market and the business went more toward retail. Continued to build a range of speaker cabinets for a number of years. Installed systems at Nero's Ramsgate, Millies at St Mildreds Bay and various others. All good and exciting times with new innovations coming out all the time. During the economic downturn in the late 80s I closed the shop and went into employment as manager of an Oil Terminal. I've retired now but I'm planning to turn the clock back and DJ again - a lot has changed. I've downloaded Virtual DJ (Home Edition) and that seems to have all I need (and a lot more) so will buy the pro version. I don't plan any fancy mixing - I'll leave that to you experts . It will be mainly function stuff and straight mixing. Just want to earn a few bob to supplement the pension. So... any advice will be welcome. Cheers John Hi, I'm John signing in.....
