would i be able to use an xlr to jack lead then add on an xlr to 5pin dmx converter? or would that not work?

It may work but it depends on how the converter and the lead is wired internally. Some configurations are not as easy or straightforward as pin 1 of the XLR connected to pin 1 of the Jack Socket, which is generally how the converters are wired. As far as the XLR to Jack lead is concerned, you would also need to make sure it was the correct type of cable used to connect the two.

Of course manufacturers sometimes have their own unique way of designating the pin outs of their dmx wiring and some occasionally mirror them, and so a generic connector may not always work in a given situation with a certain type of lighting configuration. I also don't have the information to hand to be able to check for you.

The only thing you can do is to take a reasonable gamble and try it and see?, the odds are good.

Alternatively, you could contact either Electrovision or Premier Solutions (who are both Authorised NJD Distributors) and ask whether it would work, or whether they could sell you an interface which would?
