SyC 0
We are fairly new to the business but have done quite a number of discos over the past 2-3 years. The past 2 years have been with our own equipment, which we have been expanding on from day one. One side of the business we have thought about continuously has been advertising. We haven't had a shortage of bookings but there have been times where we see a noticeable downfall in the number of bookings we get. I appreciate there are seasonal changes in discos but these seem to happen at random times. I think we know that the best form of advertising is "Word of Mouth" but I would be interested to know what other forms of advertising have been effective. We had hundreds of pens made up and they were distributed all over and proved a success. We have had a large advert in the Yellow Pages, which they managed to make a mess off and we only got enough bookings for it to pay for itself We have distributed leaflets at Charity discos we have done for free (with their consent) etc Anyone got any other great ideas? .:Simon:. .:VibeZ Music & Discos (Mobile Disco & Karaoke):. kazzachi 0
Well...... It is always a hard slog to get established... 2 years is at the beginning and you will get peaks and troughs.... probably more troughs than peaks but it does improve.. the more you do, the more you work!. Providing that your customer feed back is good, then you will get booking via word of mouth....the best form of advertising - but obviously not for someone new to the business. Do you have a residency at all.... this is one way to guarantee regular work - they are hard to get.. but once you are in YOU'RE IN! Remember, when people take your card, they may not be considering having a party for a year or two even... but if you have impressed them then they will keep your card and phone eventually. Pitch yourself at the type of socio-economic range client you want to work for. Yellow pages spings up so many times, but there are media periodicals out there to pitch for the "more discerning" client. Are you dj-ing as a full time occupation? If so, I bet you get a few days off totally, so I would use these to do lots of leg work... postering/flyering etc. As I said, if you are steady after only two years, you are doing well. ChrisPointon 0
The 1st 2 years is always the hardest. However if your making a profit and the work is coming in then your getting there. When you do a charity disco, make sure that you also get a mention (Ad) in their publication. If the event gets media coverage insist that you get a mention as one of the sponsors of the event , even consider a paid for Ad in the same issue - 2 mentions for the price of one. The pen aspect is one I hadn't thought about myself - what sort of £££ are we talking?. In addition to pens, how about the request slips to partner them (If you aren't using them already). A well designed request slip can act just like a pile of business cards right in front of your audience. Use your logo, and contact details along with a space for request. For those who haven't seen them before, a very rough guide is below:- BODGET & SON MOBILE DISCO Tel:- (0883) 43435 Mobile:- 043232 545454 We hope that you enjoy your evening with Bodget and Son. If there are any requests that you would like to hear then please write them below and hand this back to the D.J. Thank you 1. .............................. For:- .............................. 2................................ For:- .............................. 3 ............................... For:- .............................. Like, I say only a very rough idea but you get the general idea. Make it neat and eyecatching, and some may find their way into peoples wallets / handbags for later reference http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif Simply leave a pile of them on each table and by the bar. SyC 0
I think if I remember rightly they were about £110 for 500 or £160 for 1000 with full logo printed on them etc. The logo area is quite small and the pen quality is not great but you get what you pay for basically. QUOTE Ooooooddddlllees!! could you imagine how many you'd have to keep buying if you leave them willynilly on tables, ESPECIALLY at a karaoke...No ta, they can have the pens stolen from the betting shop That's the idea of the pens, as long as they are not disgarded and instead end up in someones pocket or handbag to use at another time. Everytime they use the pen, there is a chance they will think of you..... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/huh.gif .:Simon:. .:VibeZ Music & Discos (Mobile Disco & Karaoke):. I'd rather give them a business card http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
