Price: ***** Build Quality: ***** Sound : **** Specs: 4 ohm Stereo power (rms) 450w x2 8 ohm stereo power (rms) 700w x2 8 ohm bridged power (rms) 1200w Freq Response : .3db(1w/8-) weight : wear a back support lol, a massive 28kg This is one excellent piece of kit for the price, I tested it using the following: 2 x peavey pro subs (500watt each) 2 x soundlab 15" full range (350watt each) Ran the soundlabs through the hi outputs of the subs. I tested at 1/2 volume, massive bass punch, good clarity mids/tops, could not take it any further as every glass item in my flat was moving, plus the neighbours top, below, left and right would not be too happy. I paid 250 for this amp, and it is well worth the dosh, considering what it would cost for a similar power rated amp from a higher spec manufacturer. caroline roadshow 0 Posted March 22, 2004 Report Share Posted March 22, 2004 Just thought i would second DJP there... we also have one of these amps (fortunately i got mine for £199) it powers a pair of Peavey Hisys2's (350w) and a pair of peavey 1xt's (350w) and it sounds great, mind you its not as good as our Peavey PV2600 amp which is now used to power our subs (1.3kw per side). Hope Chris Pinton reads this cos Im eyeing those amps his got on this site but I'm not well impressed by the THD or is this on the upper end of the amp ie: near full volume in which case its pretty good. A couple of years ago, when hiring some extra speakers for a large gig, I couldn't get any sound from them. Stupidly I turned the volume up and up. The amp peak lights flashed and fans speeded up, but no sound. Most modern amps can run into a direct short circuit, and shut themselves down without ill effects. More often than not, as a result of dodgy wiring or a misplaced stilleto heel! Probably the worst thing I ever saw, at a village hall was an old Cloud GS150 Slave Amplifier (Mono), circa early 80's. This was running an array of 10 standard disco / P.A speakers which added up to around 1.6 Ohms to the actual amplifier!!!!. Amazing to think that this basic Bi-Polar amplifier was still working after many years of handling this load without any modern protection circuits. These British Made Amps, in their day were one of the best around despite the tendency for the EQ Sliders to crackle like a bowl of rice crispies http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif . transeurope 0 Posted May 10, 2004 Report Share Posted May 10, 2004 Goodness, am I the only one to have had a disasterous time with Peavey? For a time the local hire shop stocked nothing but Peavey. This was because the owner had a "sweet deal" with one of the Peavey distros. Peavey are of course the company that used to yack on and on about how their products were so special and a cut above the rest and you get what you pay for. Now their product is available on a certain global discount website for a fraction above the cost of Behringer. The local hire store at the time had a very convenient drop and collect service. This meant that even though I own my own gear it frequently suited me to use their kit if the hall opening times were inconvenient. Fortunately for me I always brought my own spare set in the car! My favourite story from this period... One day I had the Peavey amp, a 2.5 or some ludicrous name like that, upto about 3 on the dial (it doesn't have numbers) and some Hisys 2sand I was playing soft backround music BEFORE there were people in the hall. Just me and the organisers. The speaker blew. By this time I was utterly ****ed off with Peavey and had already gone above the head of the hire shop to the distributor to complain about the many incidents. I rang the distro on his mobile. Explain this one! "Were you standing in front of the speaker when it blew? "What????" "Were you standing in front of the speaker when it blew?" "Well, er, no actually, although one of the organsiers was....now that you mention it..." "That's it, Peaveys have a specially formed horn and cannot take direct reflection of the sound back into it" I never found out whether this was a ludicrous story or a ludicrous technology used in the speaker.....It has the ring of truth because someone was standing directly in front of the speaker, something that usually wouldn't happen when it was playing at full volume...and he had no way of knowing that... The same amps had ludicrously hard to use binding post connections and ludicrously positioned jack sockets that were impossible to access if the amp was cased. In fact everything about Peavey is a frigging disaster in my book, even down to their penny-pinching plastic handles and their er, pop-off "three-dimensional grill". And of course on the HiSys series at least, the handles were positioned so that you had to carry them upside down to use them at their centre of gravity. How silly is that? I don't get it guys, really I don't. Maybe I have just been very unlucky, although the hire shop hasn't used Peavey for ten years now because of the volume of complaints they got not just from me, but from others as well...
