Hugmaster 0
Hi folks Does anyone have the Google toolbar installed on their browser? If so do you find it useful? If you had it but uninstalled it, was it because it just wasn't used, or was it a pain in the ar$e http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif Thanks people Darren Take a listen to Music Matters, the Big Mix Entertainment podcast, featuring music from the Podsafe Music Network. GaryReggae 0
I have the Google toolbar and have found it very useful. I origingally installed it just for the pop-up blocker, it's worth downloading it for that alone! You can also do Google searches by typing words into the toolbar which saves having to go to Google.com, the only disadvantage is if you want to search for uk sites you still have to go directly to google.co.uk. It's free so you can't lose really although other searh portals have cottoned on to the idea and I think Yahoo and Altavista do very similiar toolbars.
ChrisPointon 0
I installed it when it first became available, but after reading mixed opinions about the fact that it was rumoured to contain spyware, I deleted it. I don't know how true these rumours were and I never found evidence whilst it was installed myself, but I must admit that its very unlike Google to give anything away for free http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif . Pop up stoppers are great, but they can also be a hinderence as well. Say you are downloading a file from a site which which uses a pop up window to start the download . Hugmaster 0
Hi I've been reading the Google FAQ regarding the toolbar and as far as pop ups go, if, for example a download opened as a pop up window, that wouldn't be blocked as you have initiated the link, it's only the ad type pop ups that are effected. I'm still undecided. Will do some more reading. Cheers Darren Take a listen to Music Matters, the Big Mix Entertainment podcast, featuring music from the Podsafe Music Network. NineLives 0
QUOTE the only disadvantage is if you want to search for uk sites you still have to go directly to google.co.uk You can set up your Google bar to search UK or world the same as the main Google site does as well as a lot of other things, use the "Options" to set up the Google bar. I have been using it for a while now , I would recommend you to give it a try http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif
Award Entertainment 0
I've had it installed for a couple of months now and I love it! The popup blocker can be turned off with just one click, searching either worldwide or country-specific is dead easy and the 'spyware' component is optional. If you want site voting buttons, it's reporting back to Google. If you don't, then it's not. I also love the site rank display.

NineLives 0
QUOTE (apevents @ Apr 5 2004, 11:50 AM) I find tool bars like this annoying. They take up browser space, which means less space to view websites (which is the whole purpose of them). If I want to search for something, it doesn't take much to enter "www.google.co.uk" into the address bar and then enter my search requirements. In my opinion, the google search bar may make it easier to search for things, but has less space to see what you're searching for. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/042.gif Andrew If you find it using up screen space just drag it the toolbar up with your pointer and drag it down when needed , there is so much more to the Google toolbar than searching http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif
Mikeh 0
Hey I use the google toolbar on all my machines, not only does it allow me to search directly from the top but I can also at the quick glimpse see the pagerank of the website Iam looking at, this is helpful for me as a developer but Iam sure to people like yourselfs creating your own sites it can give you a really good indication on how your website is ranking. The block up poper is also a major feature I use, if it blocks a popup that I require you can either click the blockup button to enable them on that site or hold down CTRL while clicking the link. Its a godsend. There are obviously other usefuls features but I have them turned off hence Iam unable to say anything more about those. In regards to loosing screen space, if you really need that extra few pixels to view a site try upping screen resolution to 1024*768 if your not on it and your monitor/GFX can handle it. If not and your using IE then press F11 to view in full screen then press F11 to go back to normal, simple! NineLives 0
QUOTE F11 to view in full screen then press F11 to go back to normal, simple! Nice tip ! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif any more F Key tricks ?
Mikeh 0
Hey There are loads of shortcuts and tricks for IE, its possible to completly navigate and run through IE fully using just a keyboard http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif These F? keys are used by a lot of people. F1 - IE Help System. F3 - Opens little search window to left. F4 - Drops down the address box. F5 - Refreshes and reloads current URL. CTRL+F5 - Refresh page ignoring any timestamps (true reload) F6 - Highlights address bar. F10 - Highlights file menu for navigating top menu. F11 - Full screen switch As well as these there are many handy shortcuts which can be used to jump around pages and IE windows as desired, some of these include ALT+TAB - Cycle through open windows TAB - Jump to next 'active' item (links, buttons, form fields etc) SHIFT+TAB - Same as above except goes backwards ESC - Quit downloading the page CTRL+N - Open a new window CTRL+W - Close current page CTRL+S - Save current page CTRL+P - Print current page CTRL+I - Open Favourites toolbar CTRL+H - Open history toolbar HOME - Move beginning of page END - Move to end of page ALT+Leftarrow/Backspace - Go backe ALT+Rightarrow - Go forward ALT+Home - Go to homepage Those are just a few of what can be done via the keyboard, the list may look scary but believe me after a while you learn to use them one by one, I hardly ever use a mouse while surfing the net now unless I encounter something like DHTML or flash which confuses these shortcuts!!
