cjcom 0
It was dec.03 when I paid 50 quid for this 1 year old amp. Somebody in the club had wasted his beer on it. My mate checked it out and found all transistors some diodes and a bit more all blown. Email to Yorkville in Canada for spare transistors, we could not get them in Europe. 3 months later its kicking 1000watts @ 8 ohms into my Tannoy B475 18" subs. Spares cost 250.00, labour 450.00,(68 hours) so for 750 quid I can shake the glasses on the shelves at the bar. The point I raise is that you don't always have to buy new. kazzachi 0
http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/071.gif ...so a secondhand amp..... has ended up costing more than a brand new one! Can I interest you in a secondhand karaoke system! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif WE LOVE KAREN, AND IT'S GREAT TO HAVE HER BACK !!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ChrisPointon 0
£800 for a 2x 1000W @ 4 Ohms?? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/whistling.gif . Shipping would be £87 according to the online calculator - assuming its no heavier than 25kg. Then you may get stung with 17.5% VAT when it comes into this country in Duty. So £800 + £87 + £140 VAT = £1027. You can get a UK Sourced amp for well under that with a similar output, warranty and spares availability. But for £50 I wouldn't grumble, but buying a new product from the US or Canada which doesn't have a service agent or spares in the UK? - No Thanks.
kazzachi 0
I think I would grumble... £50 then £750 on parts/labour..... Id have gone to cnogleton sound and light and bought a brand new amp! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/tongue.gif WE LOVE KAREN, AND IT'S GREAT TO HAVE HER BACK !!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Eeeeeek, I missed that bit until I re-read it!!. Geez you could hand solder 3 Amplifers from kit form for less labour than that!. Where the hell does £450.00 labour come in!!. To think, that i'm visiting another member on the forum to help set up a PA for a Bacon Buttie and a Pint of beer!! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/scared.gif . Spares - £250 what are they? - Jet Engine Spares!!. I think that you have been seriously ripped off with the labour charges http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wacko.gif . My Solicitor only charges £30 per hour and that would be 13 hours even at his rates. Any engineer who takes even 13 hours to diagnose and repair an Amplifier should be practicing law, 68 hours...hmmmm thats some repair http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif. With 1200W Amps costing as little as £199 brand new with Warranty and Even (club) industry standard 2 Ohm Stable QSC Amps for around £600 then you could have shopped around and got a better deal, even a grade 'A' condition 2nd hand Crown, EV or QSC Amp would have cost less than your labour charge http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/scared.gif. Maybe you should have asked around first before committing so much money, and waiting so long for spares. But at the end of the day, if you think that you got a good deal and are happy with the results then thats all that matters. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif
YourBigEvent 0
That's what I was 'hinting' at in the first reply, seems a heck of a lot of cash for one amp. .....but what do I know ? cjcom 0
It may seem a lot of dosh for the repair of this amp but it is driving 1000watts into 8ohms ,not 4 or 2. The replacement transistors were bought( for 1 channel) from the manufacturers in Canada and with shipping costs the total was 218.00 The same amp new from a store in Norwich where I live would have been 1600.00 The cheapest I could find new in the UK was just over 1200.00. This amp works very well for sub together with a yorkville AP4040 for bass,750watt stereo and another AP4040 for mid/top.
