Lots of Quicksteps, Waltz's to start then mainly Rock'n'roll, 60's and 70's after. Having looked at the weather tomorrow it's also gonna be freezing. Brrrrrrr.

Firday a 13th birthday party. Took my rock disco out for them as they requested they seemed to love it. My Roadie John was amazed he was dreading it but really had fun. And you could tell he packed away so fast cos he was singing and jumping around, it was very bizzare hes usually grumpy and boring http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/tongue.gif . Did Karaoke for an hour that night too there was one young girl who really was good she blew my socks off.

Gave out Loads of cards to Parents and people in the club who just were impressed with our set up, sound quality and they way we approached things. Had an interesting conversation with one of the parents explaining how i work my 'Not at my party' Theory with the younger crowds. All in all a great night i really had fun.

Tonight im going out for a few beers with mates and tomorrow having a pre Glastonbury BBQ!! Hope it rains it will get me right in the mood! ROLE ON WEDNESDAY!!

If it aint got that Swing, it Dont mean a thing!!

..........should have told him that he shouldnt worry that you DANCED with her back then...... he should be more worried about what happened after you had finished dancing with her!...... Some men are sooooooo sad! Wonder why he has kept this little hang up with him all these years - a little insecure perhaps!!! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/071.gif

what a great gig on Saturday, had a gig in Brands Hatch for a local schools PTA, it was their Summer Ball.

I worked with a band called Forfunksake (I have worked with them many times before)

one of the most pleasurable gigs I'd had for a lond time, the music list had some superb tunes on it, ans the last line said "none of the S*%^y cheesy party music"

8pm - 10.15pm - background music during dinner

10.15pm - 10.30pm - few dance anthems to get everyone up

10.30pm - 11.15pm - 1st set by the band

11.15pm - 11.30pm - me again

11.30pm - 12.15pm - Band Again

12.15pm - 1.15pm - Me again

and I got an £80 tip as well.

Hi

Last night's 60th birthday was an odd one.

First thing, we'd rearranged the traler to accommodate the new base bins...but...oops we forgot to put the case of leads back in, outch!

had to get someone to speed over to our venue to drop them off for us...finished setting up in good time though thank god as it was a surprise party.

Music set was 99% 50's and 60's, with a sprincling of 70's and 80's for the younger ones.

However, it was one of those nights where everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly and no one danced.

Makes life a bit dull, but hey it was a nice challenge to come up with 4 hours of music that was written before I was born.

Ran a nice little contest for the crowd, they had to guess what was no one on the week that the b/girl was 16, 18, 21 40 and 50 had a great laugh with that and made for some good interaction.

All in all, pretty satisfying.

Darren

Ps The Skytec base bins sound bloody great! I'd forgotten how much better your system sounds with that bit extra, not in terms of volume, but sheer quality.

My son Dave (djsounds) and myself were invited along to see Dan (discodirect) doing a wedding. Didn’t know quite what to expect after looking at his profile on this forum, Date of birth 16th September 1905. WOW he didn’t look bad for a 99 year old, this disco lark must keep people looking young. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

When we arrived Dan was busy getting the kids up and dancing, while the adults were having their buffet. His sound system sounded very good with some nice bass, Dave couldn’t get over how good the bass sounded. As the evening progressed, Dan went through a wide range of music, from the 50’s right through to a Techno/Garage/House session, with plenty of mixing between tracks. We could see he was working hard at his desk without any chance to talk to anyone, he left the request side of things to Ian his Roadie during this time. As the tempo increased so did the volume (my head was still thumping to the beat this morning when I woke up) http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wacko.gif

We were very impressed with his microphone technique, not too much & not too little and very clear, and he managed to work the crowd well keeping people on the floor all night.

At one time he asked everyone to clear the floor so he could play a special request, Patsy Cline’s Crazy, this was a complete change in tempo & we wondered what he was doing. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/533.gif But as Dan explained sometimes a bit of reverse psychology works & sometimes doesn’t. It worked well for him, because the floor filled up with more that twice as many people dancing.http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/huh.gif

He finished the night by singing Things can only get better, wow he is a true entertainer and it was good to see a real pro working. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/notworthy.gif

Thanks for a good evening Dan we thoroughly enjoyed it, by the way Dave is still talking about your bass bins.

Well, my Saturday night, a Golf Captain's outdoor bar-b-q was as originally expected, mainly older people, and I think I was the youngest there!. Sad to say that an otherwise pleasant evening was marred by the drizzly Weather, and the fact that the marquee was laughable.

I can't believe that the organisers pay £800 for the hire of this marquee, which was so badly fitted together, that you could see the sky through the roof joints!, and the "door" wouldn't join to fasten http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/scared.gif . On a rainy, chilly June night this isn't the most comfortable of venues for pensioners!, but they made the best of the situation and enjoyed themselves. The bar staff also kept us fed, and supplied with Hot Chocolate - Bless 'em. I did however subtly suggest to the chairman, that the £800 could be better spent elsewhere, and they could save a lot of money by just hiring a warm village hall or pub function room.

Music wise, it was quicksteps and Barn Dances to start off, followed by 60's & 70's along with a full dancefloor to Boney M http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif . Even though the cold had driven most of them away by 12.00, I got a lot of positive feedback about the music played and how the volume was just right.

Hmm, Friday night played in a beatiful 1400 capacity club with just 30 punters all night in Ashford Kent (promotion, what promotion?). This left a bad taste in my mouth, especially as the dual CD was skipping and stopping when we arrived. The comment from the light jock was: oh yeah, we had trouble with that last night. And guess what, they had no back up player and had done nothing about the fault. Lucky I had my CDJ1000's in the boot...

Saturday - back to the mobile, did a blinding gig for 500 in a local school, played R&B and Hip-hop to a receptive audience, had a guest DJ Paul Velocity (Kiss, M Ibiza, Jailclub, Zest) do a blinding garage and D&B set. Pics on my website later tonight.

Next week, back to the wedding factory playing cheese to make ends meet!!!

Saturday Night:

School disco 1830-2215 (with a rock band playing from 1945-2005), which seemed to go well, as the compliments are still rolling in. There was another DJ at the same school (different venue), who charged over double what we charged, and not many compliments have been heard. Well, they may have got more money, but I was in bed before they even left the school, and we finished after them.

Sunday:

London to Brighton cycle ride, raising more money for the BHF.

Just read the remarks from Jackwabbit....just wanted to add a couple of remarks.

Wedding wise, the function went rather well. Only a small gathering really. Venue wise it was ideal for guest numbers. The 'smaller dance floor' made my work easier - easier to fill!!!!

The bride's 'side of the family' (and friends) were 'up for it'. Again, made work easier. The groom's 'side' were 'reserved' at first....then wanted an 'old skool set' to really liven things up towards the end. The 'bass' sound mentioned was from my own custom built bins, but on reflection I think the smaller venue helped to bounce the sound off walls (The sound was 'everywhere'!)

I wasn't really pushing the volume (God help the local neighbours if I did!) but towards the end of the night, the atmosphere was quite exciting.

All in all a nice function to work.

As already mentioned, I met DJSounds (and his father) at the gig. Both Ian (my roadie for the night) and I found them both extremely charming!

It was nice to meet fellow entertainers, but I wish I could have had the opportunity to chat more. It's always going to be a little difficult to 'chat' when your working for a client, but we were able to share a little experience and knowledge during the course of the night. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif

DJsounds (David) brought along some photo's of his equipment setup - looks really, really good. And I hope to be able to attend at one of his functions in the future.

I would also like to thank them both again for 'assisting' during the dis-assembly of the rig and loading the motor - which was kind and very helpful.

Just a reminder to David, if you intend to purchase new equipment in the future, why not PM Chris (Admin) first, and explain exactly what you're looking for.

I purchased two lasers off him last year following his advice - turned out to be excellent value for money and still going strong!!!!! He'll probably be able to recommend low-frequency 15" drivers / speaker systems that are either equal or better than mine (which are old and probably discontinued!).

Thanks again for your time chaps, and kind remarks.

Dan
