Do not get the following programs, they will screw up your computer!

Kazaa Media Desktop: Probably by far the worst program to install on your computer! Has adware/spyware, and lags your computer up so much you have to use a paddle to get to your desktop

Morpheus: Not as bad, but still bad, due to the fact you can't DELETE off your registry, and has adware as well

Limewire: Ok by terms, but still lags, and i think has spyware http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/huh.gif

Bearshare (or is it ware?): SPYWARE! don't GET IT!

Basically, don't install ANY programs that use P2P system or to use for downloading! Plus it is illegal! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/nono.gif And most have at least Adware, if not spyware!

Oh, and programs that are ok!

Warcraft III: Anyone have it? I'll play you http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

and the list goes on........ http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/tongue.gif

You can also download spybot which will remove most programs spyware and addware processes leaving the program safe.

Is kazza the one where you can only download 128KB mp3 or is that iMesh?

Only for home listening to and then going out and buying the cd 'ness' not for disco use remeber http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Ner ner ner ner... ner ner, ner can't touch this.

My biggest influence was Vera Lynn and I enjoy winding down with my cat - tabetha whilst listening to bing crosby playing on the gramophone.

Kazaa Lite installs nothing whatsoever except the program, if you got Gator then you did'nt download the lite versiion as it was specifically marketed to get away from the add ons. search for it in any search engine and go to the official lite website

There's no way you would have got gator while downloading Kazza,

When I first downloaded it, it was great, but then it got slower & slower which annoyed me as I'm on a broadband connection,

So after a dig around the site I realised that I was being used as a supermode.....you know.

Read about in the home page, go to search filter, advanced, & unclick the box that says Do not function as a supermode.

As for Limewire...it's poo http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wacko.gif

Yes that is Kazaa (Kazaa Media Desktop) NOT Kazaa Lite which is a completely different program from a different (unauthorised) website. What does happen from time to time is you get a window pop up saying a new version is available please click on install. You should ALWAYS click cancel !!! as this comes from the main Kazaa servers. If ever you want to update your version of Kazaa Lite go to the K Lite website never click on any auto updates.

And the music industry can't actually shut kazaa down because its not based on a central server like Napster was. Kazza lite just relies on lots of peoples computers being connected to it and if they and kazza no longer works.

That my 2pence worth.

Not strictly true. The R.I.A.A closed down Audiogalaxy, and that operated on a similar principal, basically they can close them down on the basis that it promotes illegal file swapping and copyright theft.

As mentioned on a previous thread, the only thing keeping Kazaa out of court at the mo, is the fact that the actual Sharmann Networks is based on a privately owned Island just off Australia, and as such - one of the few places out of U.S Jurisdiction.....at least for now.

Ah I knew it was someting like that.

But if kazaa closes surely another p2p program will take its place.

People said we would fold without Napster, people said it was then when they shut Audiogalaxy, We're still here and we're still up to date on releases and pre-releases, something wll always be available!!

Yes is the short answer uninstall but note your name and password and you will be able to use them with lite. Don't forget the only updates to accept are by going back to Lite website DON'T autoupdate no matter what it says or you will get your old spyware version back again!

Hope this helps

I have been using, and relying on KaZaA Lite for quite some time. However I have now removed it from my Internet PC, formatted and reinstalled all my software EXCEPT KaZaA.

When using KaZaA are you safely tucked away behind a Firewall? And is your Antivirus software protecting you at all times? Yes? That`s what I thought until someone alerted me.

I discovered that my Firewall was severly crippled and my Antivirus had been disabled - not by me.

I will not let KaZaA near my PC again until I am running the best AV and NIS that I can find - and then I will monitor the situation very closely.

I`m not a PC numbskull, I use Adaware, Norton Internet Security, Norton Antivirus, Netbus Detective and some other stuff ;). Consequently I felt quite smug about my PC security. Not now!

I would urge anyone using KaZaA to double-check their Antivirus and Internet Security settings.

With reference to an earlier comment about "Gator". I think that is installed by Go!zilla.

Also look out for something called a "trickler". This runs at startup and sends your info to a website somewhere. Also be wary of "nbsession", and "nbname" as I am certain that these use the NETBUS for the same thing. They don`t show up when you do Ctrl+Alt+Del, but you should see them in your Firewall log.

I really miss KaZaA - but I value my security!

I use Trend PC Cillin. I've had no probs like the one's you mentioned. ( I've just paid $15.00 or £9.00 for a years online updates etc).

However, I think it's worth taking on board what you have experienced.
