DJshaggy 0
So we are now more th an half way through the year, Glastonbury has been and gone http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/014.gif and Im back on the decks and handy pc buttons once again tonight. Im at the Hilton Hotel in Stanion, Northants tonight (about a mile away from me) Im playing one of the local schools 6th form Prom so being a young 19 year old lad im more than excited! Weird thing was i only landed the gig because im the only one they could find who carried PLI. Hilton near me seems to be really strict on this. But no problem if you are covered. I even impressed the managment but turning up a few days before the gig and filling out the question sheet and giving them my risk assesment etc. The Manager really was shocked, she kept saying thankyou so much every time i handed her more information. Anyway really looking forward to this gig. Although after ebing at Glasto watching acts like the Chemical Bros, Basment Jax and orbital im hopeing i dont get set in club and weird land again http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif It happens now and then but you play to the crowd hey.... Tomorrow i really do get to get set in club land as im playing one of the clubs i do now and then 2 hours in the warm up bar then an hour to rest then upstairs for the big cheeeeesssseeeee midnight until close with the finest in Stilton with the odd club classic thrown in for good measure. Should be a good weekend for me, Back to work on Monday though http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wacko.gif So what is on the cards for you guys?? If it aint got that Swing, it Dont mean a thing!!

Paul Smith 0
Last night was my first time at this particular hotel. I hadn't had the chance to check it out before hand and it was a shock to discover that the only way in with the gear was up 2 flights of service stairs and it was my large set up http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/scared.gif luckily I had 3 roadies to help. Nice enough hotel with friendly staff and we had a great night but I decided that access was so difficult that I'd give this one a miss in the future (unless they get a lift installed). Then in the post this morning - a contract for New Years Eve at this same hotel http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wallbash.gif (I remember sending the contract out but I'd forgotten where it was for) QUOTE My days are numbered!!!! 13 and counting and I'm back in the land of norm http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wacko.gif I must have missed something here????????? Hugmaster 0
Hi Last night's wedding was a great night, we really had a good time and received lots of feedback. Took on board some wise words from fellow forum members and kept the kids occupied whilst they were having the buffet, ending up getting the dancfloor packed doing bloody cha cha slide, and this is while food is available! As I said in a previous post, we were on with a rock band, Platinum Jarr, excelent rock band, but a bit to much bonjovi for my personal taste, but they went down very well. First night testing out our new lights, all went well and created just the right mood. Now I must go and get a digital camera so we can start taking pics of these functions http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif Darren Take a listen to Music Matters, the Big Mix Entertainment podcast, featuring music from the Podsafe Music Network. YourBigEvent 0
R'n'B wedding, this music all night, no-one danced but they instited on playing and not changing the music genre, end of the night 60% came up and said what a great night, got another enquiry from it too, after the guy said ' You really know you R'n'B music and which tunes to play' I must thank The Best R'n'B album in the world ...................... for that as I didn't have a clue what I was playing http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/laugh.gif .....but what do I know ? Hugmaster 0
I had a similar experience a couple of weeks ago playing to a gang of 60-70 year olds, 99% music was 50's/60's rock'n'roll, no one danced but got tons of good feedback. Amazing what a little bs can do. Darren Take a listen to Music Matters, the Big Mix Entertainment podcast, featuring music from the Podsafe Music Network.
ChrisPointon 0
An all Day Wedding was Saturdays Gig, originally running from 3pm to Midnight, we got there to set up at 2.15 only to be told that the Band were not going to be playing at all during the evening (They were the guests of the Bride & Groom) and that the D.J's would now be doing the entire set. Set up and began to play Background Music as the guests arrived from the church. Decided it was going to drag on, and came back home for a few hours leaving a Roadie with the gear. Returned at 7pm to find them still eating http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/scared.gif , found out that in my absence the Bride had also extended the function to 1AM for an additional fee. The speeches dragged on until 9.30pm and then a firework display until 10pm, eventually they had their first dance at 10.20. Most of the elderly relatives had gone by them, so it left a mainly 70's and 80's crowd, not a bad night, but not as good as the week before. The only annoying thing was the fact that the bride had extended the function for another hour, when virtually all of the guests had gone by 12.00. We ended up playing to 1 table of 4 people until 1AM http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/188.gif , but the bride was adamant that she wanted us to play right until the end http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wallbash.gif . We spoke to various members of the band who should have been playing, to find out that they had recently stopped using their support DJ and were impressed with what we had done, and would like to pass the work to us in the future. So there should be quite a few bookings coming our way shortly from the band.
DJ Marky Marc 0
Just had a great night at a wedding a mix of scottish , canadian , and some english people. they were all up for it! 400 guests makes for a big party! only down side was i couldn't play any vinyl due to a bounce floor and over active crowd http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/sad.gif wish they were all like last night ! <a href="http://www.djassociates.org"><img src="http://www.djassociates.org/anims/compres_banner.gif" alt="Join the DJ Associates Disc Jockey Association" border="0" width="468" height="60"></a>

ChrisPointon 0
QUOTE (ADS Entertainments @ Jul 4 2004, 12:25 PM) Good news Chris. Do the band play locally or nationally ? Just Local..well they cover Chester to Manchester so well within my normal coverage. It also transpired that we had played alongside two members of the band previously at the same venue, a few years ago when the band were still just a duo http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif . They specialise in Weddings at large functions, so it should be interesting to see what gigs come from it.
