A mate of mine who used to be a dj, and has been called up to do a one off event for his brothers wedding. He has all the kit etc, everything is professional gear and PAT tested as of recent. He needs 5 million PLI insurance as it is at a council run village hall. He has looked about, but everywhere they quote for the year, when he only needs to cover himself for one day.

There must be a way, as there are often one day events of different types that require short term cover.

Any help appreciated as always

It's probably not what you're looking for (just 1 day cover required) but I would suggest contacting the MU (Music Union) for the amount required + benefits for membership.

Yep, the Musicians Union gets my vote as well.

PLI is likely to be just the same as car cover.....in being only the smallest fraction lower than the full years premium for a days cover - so you may as well go for the full year.

I guess the only other possibility might be to get him added to someone elses policy, as you can with cars, not sure if this is do-able though?????

Just a suggestion.

I see your point Vinnie.

I do know that the MU only cover the registered member.

As regards a form of 'blanket cover', say, for a disco that has P.L.I. for the entertainers who work for the 'covered disco', i can only presume that an agent may have this.

For general info

We have to remember that the entertainers P.L.I. is to indemnify the venue (council) in the event of a claim because it is a public hire venue.

Should a claim arise as a result of an electrical fault or 'accident' from the entertainers equipment, the 'paper trail' will be investigated not only by the Insurers and legal reps, but also the Health & Safety Exec.

eg,

was the P.A.T. certified by a responsible and qualified person. Was the item 'involved' classed as safe and 'passed' / dated.

is all paperwork up-to-date and correct with the council / entertainer, etc

Also, the 'insured' (entertainer) will have a responsibility to follow the guidelines as set by the insurer (policy) regarding reporting the 'accident'.

Employers liability is a slightly different 'kettle of fish'. It's mainly the company's responsibility to the employee, but perhaps Mikeee or Chris could shed a little light in this subject later.
