Incidentally, been using the new lighting for a few weeks now and the mood stuff like the Abyss works and loks tons better than all that scanner stuff, much more like it! Paul Smith 0
Time for a rant http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/fear.gif Fri night booked from 10 til 1 for a wedding disco. They also had a ceiladh band from 8 til 10 (for those not familiar with ceiladh = glorified medieval line dancing). At present the hotel is having some major renovation work (although when people book the hotel they are told it's just some new toilets being built!!). Because of this work, access to the stage is difficult and so I decided that the best thing would be to arrive early and get the gear onto the stage before the guests enter the room and then take our time to set up behind the curtain whilst they have the meal. So we arrive at 5.30 and are ready well before 8, taking the back half of the stage. The band arrive at 8.10 (for an 8 o'clock start) and whilst setting up in front of me I put on some background music. Whilst out on the dance floor to check the sound level I am approached by the brides father who warmly shakes my hand and asks if I'm with the band. I tell him that I'm doing the disco and he says 'Oh I just wanted to see if the band would like a drink' and off he goes to ask them. They eventually start at 8.50 with more drinks sent up and when they finish at 10.30 the BF is up again - more drinks, do you want food etc but totally ignoring us http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/mad.gif It was a good gig though and within 60 secs of starting there were more people on the dancefloor for the disco than the entire time the band were on http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif . It just annoyed me the way the BF http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/censored.gif licked the band but totally blanked us all evening. YourBigEvent 0
Tonight (Saturday), felt ill but decided to do the gig rather than get it covered, only a small set up, two lights, two powered speakers and a head unit required, all accessable from the side loading door of the van. Arrived at 7pm, to be told the guests were arriving at 7pm too...and it's a 1am finish, so a 6 hour disco. Didn't strap in my flightcases the night before so had slid so I couldn't open the side door of the van, had to enter from the rear http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif Whilst doing this a stand fell onto my fire extinghusher and set it off, all over the speakers and everywhere else, so had to get a cloth and clean kit as well. Set up and didn't see anyone until 7.45, then about 10 people arrived, no B&G though. In between being ill and playing music still no sign of the B&G until about 9.15 when bride turns up, groom is sleeping the drink off... He arrives at 10pm and is greeted by the 14 people at the party http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/fear.gif (they had food for 60) First dance done, then everyone (all 14) either sit down to chat, no drinks, or go home, this continued until 1am, nobody drinking or dancing, all sat around one table chatting. Being ill makes it a long night, having a dead crowd also makes the night drag, but 6 hour disco when nobody intrested whilst being ill has to be the worst night ever. .....but what do I know ? DJ Marky Marc 0
just did the most amazing sat night wedding disco ever. Hotel in Reading booked two disco's from me and i was amazed when i arrived to set up the first disco to find the groom had gone AWOL ....... so this reception was cut short buy arguments in the car park between the two halfs of the family and also some pusshing and shoving...... great way to start married life ! most of the guests went home and the night was called off before they started the buffet. The other amazing disco in the same hotel had a total of 18 guests out of 60 invited but i assised my other DJ and at least these people had some fun and made to most of it ! Remind me to Never get married ! <a href="http://www.djassociates.org"><img src="http://www.djassociates.org/anims/compres_banner.gif" alt="Join the DJ Associates Disc Jockey Association" border="0" width="468" height="60"></a>

ChrisPointon 0
Saturday was a better night than Friday, a Wedding with a right bunch of P*ssheads. Spandau Ballet - Gold seemed to be their anthem and had everybody on the dancefloor from the word go. This was followed by Madness and some Ska for the rowdy lads, who had obviously been drinking heavily all afternoon http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif . We had the token idiot who wanted Bob the Builder, this guy had so much to drink that he continually looked on the verge of vomiting and could barely stagger up to the Disco. Upon being told politely that there wasn't any possiblity of it being played, he immediately challenged us to "let's sort it out outside". My reply that I was contracted to provide the entertainment inside, and that I wasn't paid to discuss anything with him anywhere, had him confused and he staggered back to his seat. Luckily, he caused some trouble at his table and it turned out that the Brides Father escorted him to the Door minutes later http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif . I mean this drunken idiot must have been in his 50's and had his Grandchildren with him, what a great example to set!. Fortunately the rest of the night was good with the majority of Guests on the dancefloor for most of the night http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif . The crowd was rowdy, but in a non troublemaking sense. Rich (Big Ben) also came along to visit and help out, and I think it was a more enjoyable night for him, than the boring gig the previous night!. We've also got some pictures which i'll post later. kazzachi 0
Mega good night last night... did a "fund raiser" for a guy in sierre leone (sp) who needs urgent surgery..... so my client put on a "bit of a do" for 180 odd people. Did the first bit for the kids... but decided to get the kids to go fetch the adults... so the party kicked off almost immediatedly! Great night...... raised plenty of cash.... and they were a really friendly crowd.... really enjoyed it. Dukesy 0
Oh the excitement... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif Friday - 2 gigs Afternoon - Kids Party in Herne Bay, Kent (1am - 3pm) Nice - especially the single mums trying to get a tan in the garden whilst I'm stuck indoors...lol http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif ) Evening - Hen Party, Cambridgeshire. Did a fair bit of driving over the weekend. Not so much the total distance but the traffic was a nightmare. The Espace car broke down Sunday morning. It's ready to be looked at on Monday (by a good mechanic friend) but looks like needing a new lump under the bonnet - worse case. So to round it off....this weekends income against outs: Gig earnings Total: £300 £40 fuel (Total weekend miles 298) Roadie: £60 ________________ Total Balance: £200 BUT.... New head gasket + Skim + Labour £250 (approx) "In one hand - out the other" Totally F http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/censored.gif D transport wise for this forthcoming weeks gigs....(Thursday, Friday, Saturday) so have decided to look into 3 possibilities: 1) Plunge a load of money into getting the Espace 100% - no exact figure determined 2) Buy another used car (say 4-5 years old) - a gamble 3) Buy a new van thru 2 yr lease / contract hire - a bigger gamble Yep - really good weekend so far!
