Hi, Welcome to D.J's United. Whether it is friendly conversation or hints and tips on the business that you are looking for, then you'll find both here!. I'm sure that our other members will make you feel welcome, although that "Spindoctor" bloke takes some getting used to! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif .

If you are looking for a Starter Package for Mobile use, then check out our "Package Deals" listed on our website, the Web address is at the bottom of my post.

I have recently added Gemini Products to my range, and they do some competitive start up packages, if you are looking for a Vinyl or CD based system.

If you could give me some more information, with regard to whether you want Turntables, or a Dual Cd system, and the type of gigs and size of venues that you intend to cover, then I'll be happy to quote to suit your requirements.

Welcome Kimmie...

Lucky you werent 1~364 days younger eg: 15years...or all this talk of Viagra could have been a bit risky...

You'll have fun here on here, as it doesnt suffer any of the bickering that some other UK DJ forums are beset by currently...Indeed, it looks like you're having fun already...

As far as equipment goes...Chris's question above about CD or Vinyl is really the best thing to start thinking about.

At your age (not a put-down...) all the music thats ever been readily available to you has probably been on CD...as all the main chain stores stopped carrying vinyl records/12'' singles when you were about 10 or 11.

This would suggest that you'll probably have a fair few CD's lurking around at home, but no vinyl. So, going for a CD based DJ system would instantly give you the ability to play the sort of music that you've been "into" for the last few years.

However, not all genres (styles) of music are supported on CD yet...for example, I know some DJ's who are heavily into whats best described as "underground drum'n'bass" or "upfront deep dark dirty trance", such tunes are often made by tiny record companies and only a few thousand 12inch singles are pressed, and none released on CD (yet!). If the music that you want to play is only available on vinyl currently, then getting a CD system now, is perhaps a little premature. (premature? we're back to the viagra again... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/1028.gif )

What you will find, if talking to some long-in-the-tooth DJ's, is that they may still be under the impression that CD's are tricky to work with, difficult to cue up (finding the right point on the tune). Whilst this blinkered view of CD-players was right, to a certain degree a few years ago, todays CD-decks are easier, and more accurate to use than vinyl, and easier/quicker to learn on. Also, the features offered by the cd-decks today...some of which may be out of your price range currently...far outstrip the few vinyl decks that are still on offer.

As you'll find on the forum...if/when you need any more info, or some of the info you've got already, explained in more detail, just ask... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/042.gif

Yes, I think the CD vs Vinyl debate has still got many more threads to go. I find that from dealing mainly with the Mobile D.J fraternity, that CD / MP3 is the media that most General Mobile's (The Private Function / General Pub D.J) use.

Vinyl, pretty much caters to the "Bedroom Mixer", and those who specialise in other Genre's of Music which would be impossible to find on C.D from your local HMV for example.

Club D.J's - are generally familiar with both CD and Vinyl, and perhaps use 70% Vinyl to 30% CD as part of their Set - again this can vary depending on the D.J and the music policy of the venue.

Some of the Older D.J's who were in business at the time when 7" vinyl was replaced by CD Singles, used Mini Disc to "back up" their existing Vinyl collections, instead of having to have "Decks" and CD Players to set up at every gig!.
