brianmole 0
Intersting thread.... I tried pcdj pro which was stable but light on features. It has since started losing bpm/gain info on mp3 files, so I will not be using this. I tried PCDJ FX and although the features were good, it relied on window$ directx too heavily, the sound was dreadful, and there was a noticeable latency issue that made it impractical to use for DJing, so I got my money back. Incidentally, none of this was to do with poor hardware - except the dac-2 controller which is a somewhat poor quality control surface. Watching this thread, I just downloaded the demo of OTS, and it looks like Ian is right in his assessment of it, so I will play with it and see, but I don't think it will be good enough despite everyone here giving it the thumbs up. I think Chris's view is right, once the software has a good enough control surface to interface with it, we'll be in business. Until then, back to the cdj1000's!

If they had this I would not have changed back to CD's Mobile Party DJ For Weddings Parties Corporate Events Covering London Essex Kent Sussex Surrey Bucckinghamshire Hertfordshire & Essex

Ian Stewart 0
QUOTE (ADS Entertainments @ Oct 5 2004, 01:46 PM) What do you reckon to the Hercules controller than Ian ? it looks a little like a toy, but the quality from the onboard sound card is superb, the only drawback is that you can't listen to the cueing facilty, this is a software problem with OTS, and not the hardware problem as the cueing is fime in the other software packaged with the controller. also if it was 19" rack mountable would help as well Mobile Party DJ For Weddings Parties Corporate Events Covering London Essex Kent Sussex Surrey Bucckinghamshire Hertfordshire & Essex

If you want hands on control then try BPM Studio together with the RCP2001 controller. It gives total hands on control, 6 cue points for each track and loads of other features Check BPM Studio and click on 'Products' and then '19" remote controls' to see the info on the remotes. I've been using BPM for over 3 years without any problems and using this remote gives me total hands on control. The remote is based on a denon/numark cd controller so is practically identical to using a double cd player. BPM Studio is currently on version 4.9 with version 5.0 due out early in the new year with rumours of lots of the latest features included. It doesn't mix tracks automatically very well, but that suits me fine as i'm not interested in that feature. Also there is a useful forum, where you can ask questions of other BPM users in order to find out all the shortcuts etc of using the product. Digital discos 0
hmm, Ian- Actually I have to disagree with you. I don't find ots difficult at all to beatmix/chop mix with. It's just takes a bit of time. I have pcdj running on my home pc. I do like it but it lacks the audio quality that ots has and no way has as good media library and the reliability(especially the fx version which i tried). BPM STUDIO from what people say is a great program, but it has a silly price tag! Just to prove my point, I know a DJ who has worked in clubs, and could mix superbly with cd/vinyl but yet he decided to switch to OTS and he simply won't look back. He doesn't use a external controller i.e the hercules. I have even got a recording of one of his gigs, and it does actually prove you can mix with ots. I'm sure after a while it will become second nature
ChrisPointon 0
Ian, just a thought - were you using a 5.1 soundcard to give you a channel on the mixer for each OTS Player?. I agree that the Hercules controller is not a patch on other Hardware controllers offered by some other software companies. Personally I don't use OTSDJ for any form of club work, or any function where anyform of long term mixing session would be required, so I can't comment on the ease at which OTSDJ could be adapted, however I can see the issues that have been raised here by those wishing to use OTSDJ beyond just playing tracks. I still think that OTSDJ has potential for the more creative Mixing DJ, even in its present form, its just the hardware facilities, or should I say lack of them, which let it down.
