My favourite two words should be said here!ROLF HARRIS!!!! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/071.gif Your right you need a bit of rolf if not just for comedy value! You cant beat a bit of rolf! seen his live at Glasto before and it was very very very funny and everyone knew the words which was a bit of a fright.

Its a bit of an odd theme that one but best of luck to you. I think Darren has covered most of the bases here... .but im sure there are more http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

If it aint got that Swing, it Dont mean a thing!!

is it for natives of Oz? or an Aussie theme night?

If it is for Aussies they may find it a bit patronising, I have done a gig for an Aussie crowd (at their embassy) - they like the same as anyone else really.

they do like 'Down Under' though

and AC/DC

and INXS of course.

and some blokes asked for 'Cold Chisel' - I think they are a rock band.

mental as anything... live it up

Find out first of all if its just a "theme" or if it is actually for australians..... if the latter, let me know and I will get in touch with me mate in aus and let you know whats going down - I can tell you though, that if it is for australians, it wont be a disco as you know it here in the uk...... both my mates have dj-ed over there for nearly 10 years and after having dj-ed here for a good few decades before that, found that the australian way of doing a disco is so totally different from her... let me know!

WE LOVE KAREN, AND IT'S GREAT TO HAVE HER BACK !!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I used to live in Jakarta for over 7 years and there was a huge Aussie community living there, cos Oz is so close to Indonesia. Therefore at many of my gigs there were a great many Aussies and so I got to know some Aussie music.

Some of the popular artists that I used to be asked for were: Midnght Oil, INXS, Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barnes, Kate Ceberano, Hunters & Collectors, Yothu Yindi (especially the track "Treaty" which is a great song about Aboriginies).

My minds gone blank cos I know there were a lot more Aussie artists that I used to play. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/533.gif If I remember some more I'll come back to ya http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif

BTW. Crowded House ain't Australian, they're Kiwi's!

  • 10 months later...

Well...I've done my homework and searched until I found this topic. I also have an emigration party coming up for a guy also going to Oz. This topic has already listed some cracking Aussie songs and bands - can anyone think of anything else to add? Especially anything from the last 12 months

It will be a themed night with the room decorated, and the audience dressed, in Aussie style (there's two words you don't often see together in the same sentence!) Any thoughts or ideas for games, etc.? I may be able to get hold of a digerie-doo (sp) too.

I haven't decided yet, but I own some Leiderhosen - I may go dressed as an Austrian in a poor attempt at humour...what do you lot think?

I'd need a lot of mud!!

As for songs - I completely forgot the marvelous Manic Street Preachers "Australia"...think I've just found some backing music! If only I could loop the Australia bit....

To give you a different slant on it, about a year a go I was doing a regular night at a Pub who's landlady had just moved over from Aussie, she was into Rock and Alternative here of some of the tracks I played. Many being her requests, some are known over here some not, but they all went good songs and went down well.

Hoodoo Gurus - A Hard Day's Night (Beatles Cover)

Hoodoo Gurus - Come Anytimte

Hoodoo Gurus - Bitterweet

Killing Heidi - Weir

Killing Heidi - Mascara

Midnight Oil - Beds Are Burning

Midnight Oil - Power And The Passion

Midnight Oil - Blue Sky Mine

The Saints - I'm Stranded

Jet - Look What You Done

Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl

Jet - Rollover DJ

Australian Crawl - Downhearted

Silverchair - Ana's Song

Silverchair - Freak

Silverchair - Tomorrow

......... I often play Rolf Harris at pub gigs, espiecially Court Of King Caractacus, its worring when some many people know the words and actions, even more worrying was when two guys in their early thirties came up to me and showed me their Rolf Harris Fan Club IDs!!.
