DJTREV 0
Sorry Calfy, but if I can fill the floor with cheesey choons I will happily play it all night;but then you knew that it would be the answer you got because basically thats what "mobiles"are all about. Paul Smith 0
Last nights wedding gig was for 250 people mainly in 20-30 age group and my did they like the cheese (there was no buffet) Even played the birdie song for the first time in ages http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/dry.gif The dance floor was packed to every party song going (including the Fast food Song) - it was what they wanted & I was happy to play it for them. I'd rather have a full dance floor with cheese than an empty one with more sophisticated music (I can always listen to that on the way home) http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif So Calfy, whether you like it or not, weddings work better with cheese (could be my new slogan) Paul S http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/042.gif
The Spindoctor 0
.......... and I bet if you added up all the alternative Dj's / Disco's from this coming weekend and all the DJ's playing cheese, guess which would come out on top by miles?? 'Cheese' will never be out of fashion for family functions, can't say the same about garage, house, punk, techno, and the rest and in 30 yrs time we'll still remember Agadoo etc MacDonalds, MacDonalds, Kentucky Fried chicken and a Pizza hut.............................. Loz 0
I have to say cheesy tunes do work. I covered for another DJ last weekend who is into the soul movement quite big. I have got the all the usual motown classics and some soul stuff but I decided to stick to what I know and thats cheese!!! People were tapping their feet and jiggling about which is a good sign considering it's only a pub and they're not licensed for dancing. When I went to get my money the Landlady said what a good night she'd had and how busy they had been throughout the night. So although the tunes may seem cheesy to us because we play them day in and day out to the crowds they are classics! Party to the Max, With Happy Traxx

Hugmaster 0
Hi folks I've gotta say, I've had more requests for songs that are considered utter crap than stuff I'd consider music. The fastfood song will be the one that's played most often this summer through xmas at all family gigs, if only for the fact that it's sort of an anthem for the brownies. If ya wanna know what's in, ask the kids. Tracks that still fill the floor. Wigfield, saturday night Dexy's, Come on Eileen Whamm, Wake me up before you go steps, tragedy Damian, time Wharp I rest my case. Eskie 0
QUOTE I've gotta say, I've had more requests for songs that are considered utter crap than stuff I'd consider music. Thankfully, I seem to have developed a reputation for not playing the normal cheesey stuff at weddings, and often get bookings because of this. I know that a few DJ's on here disagree with this, but there are quite a few punters out there who don't wanna hear cheese all night, or maybe it's just the area I live in, who knows http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/533.gif Last night for example the groom wanted mostly house classics, R&B, and soul classics. At the start of the gig I played a few S Club type tunes for the kids, then had some rat-pack style tunes for the older people, moved into a few disco classics, a few 60's faves, 3 or 4 Kylie type tunes and from then moved into the house, soul & R&B and the crowd loved it. A few of the guests came up to me commending me on the music and the lack of cheese, with one guy saying that was the best disco he'd ever heard at a wedding. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif Obviously every wedding is different and it's not always that I can get away with such a clubby type vibe, and although it probably seems like it, I'm not having a pop at the guys who always get through a fair amount of chedder at their gigs, cos I know that there are weddings where that is what they want, and it seems to me that in certain parts of the country it's more popular than others. However I certainly don't agree with some of the perceived philosophy on here; which says that at weddings most of the punters wanna hear cheese most of the night! Most bookings I receive now, the clients state that they don't wanna hear cheese, and that's both the bride & the groom! When I send a contract to my clients, there's a section which includes music requests, and asks for stuff they particularly want, and also a section for stuff they don't wanna hear. In the 'don't want' section, 60% of the time they put agadoo, birdie song, ymca etc. I can happily say that I've never been asked to play agadoo or the birdie song at a wedding since the 80's http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif I'll just end this by saying that I know that you often need songs that get the audience in a circle/holding hands etc, but there are other songs that do that apart from the always played ones. Songs that aren't always played such as Zorba's dance, The Wild rover, The clapping song etc. These can have the desired effect of getting everyone together but cos they're not played at every wedding they'll sometimes get a better reaction cos they haven't been heard by much of the audience for years... hmmm, myabe it boils down to the fact that I like to take chances a lot more than many dj's, rather than always playing the tried and trusted (boring)http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbdown.gif I'll be honest and say that it doesn't always work but I've enough confidence in my ability to get em back on the floor anyway. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif At the end of the day, we've each got our own philosophy on what approach works best, thankfully, or we'd all be clones http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/tongue.gif Anthony Winyard Entertainment www.awe-dj.co.uk, Entertaining London & the South-East!
