jonny 0
where do you get these from? anyone know any good sites? also, does anybody on here get promo cd's?
DJ Marky Marc 0
yes some people here get promo's but record companys dont send them out like they used to getting on a miling list is harder than flying to the moon these days, so dont waist the time, What sort of DJ work is it that you want to do becuase having the newest dance tune wont help you at a wedding ! and unless your pete tong or norman cook then you wont be needing these promos. you can pay to be on mailing lists like master mix and DMC, you get some good tunes from time to time on there cd's but not everything makes it big so lots of it you wont get to play live. <a href="http://www.djassociates.org"><img src="http://www.djassociates.org/anims/compres_banner.gif" alt="Join the DJ Associates Disc Jockey Association" border="0" width="468" height="60"></a>
Digital discos 0
woolworths.com downloading service is great for new singles. I don't think aquiring a song 1 month before it release date is much use to us mobile jocks as not many people will have heard of pre released stuff a month or two before. Woolworths.com do a few singles before they're released only about 1 week before but I think this is ideal for mobile djs.

ChrisPointon 0
Since I finished a resident club spot, I don't spend anywhere as near as much as I used to do 12 months ago on CD's. For me, the large amount of private weddings and such that I do with middle aged - older audiences means that I don't have to have the latest R'n'B or dance tune that I used to need. About 90% of the music that I'm asked to play is pre chart these days, the other 10% can be obtained from the last 3 'Now' type compilations http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif . For instance the newest song that I got asked for last night was 'Lola's Theme', the rest of the request slips were all 60's - 80's http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/533.gif . DJ In The Mix is a free subscription service catering mainly for pre release dance music. Their stuff does come out a month or so before any release date, and although some of the stuff on there doesn't actually make it into the charts, there have been several successes recently. Be warned if you do join up, you do have to prove that you have a pub / club residency and they do ring them up to check.
jonny 0
QUOTE (DJ Marky Marc @ Oct 23 2004, 11:14 PM) What sort of DJ work is it that you want to do becuase having the newest dance tune wont help you at a wedding ! and unless your pete tong or norman cook then you wont be needing these promos. you can pay to be on mailing lists like master mix and DMC, you get some good tunes from time to time on there cd's but not everything makes it big so lots of it you wont get to play live. well when i went out with a m8 of mine on valentines day in february, he got asked for a lot of pre-release singles. ive emailed anglo plugging to see what they say. if they say no then every other poluggers are gonna say no too. i have a back up anyway to get pre-releases so im not doomed yet! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
jonny 0
doh! Anglo emailed back yesterday and sed this: QUOTE hi jonny, we only send promo out to specialist show DJ's at radio stations http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/sad.gif the big names are hart, power, euro solution, intermedia, Rush and upshot. do any Dj's off here get promo off any of the key independat pluggers named above? if so, could you also tell me how you managed to get onto their mailing lists. thanks http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif
jonny 0
oh dear. just had a look on a pluggers website. in order to get promo cd's you have to 1. DJ at least 1nce a week 2. play to over 400+ a week 3. feedback on every song mailed to you by them 4. compile a weekly top 20 chart and submit them to promo companies etc 5. play the records as much as possible. didnt think ud have to do so much in order to get them http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/sad.gif
Dave80s 0
I am on some of the aformentioned mailing lists. There is no real secret to getting on them, although some people may try to keep it a secret (human nature isn't it!). Interesting that you were suprised that you had to do so much to get on the lists. The point of them sending you stuff is that you play it to as many people, you tell the promo company what you think (and what your audience think), and you 'support' the track - i.e play it as much as you can and put it high in your chart. by the way, out of interest which site did you go on for that info? I would disagree with people who say it is a waste of time, (it is time consuming though) although it depends what gigs you are doing. Even if you aren't playing the music you get sent months before release, at least you have got the song free when it does finally go top 40 and get requested. if you wanna have a go then you are on the right track, start by emailing them, compile a chart to send them, get proof you are working regularly. good luck! Dave80s 0
hart I don't know about, but Power are one of the biggest for dance music - hard list to get on, you must be working regularly and to a lot of people, and you have to send them your chart for about 6 months before you get anywhere - oh, and you have to pay them! I think it is £25 a month - you get about 100 mailouts a month though euro solution is part of music house, which combines Hyperactive, Renegade, Euro Solution and a few others. quite big. intermedia are radio promotions I think. Rush is ok, quite small, you may get on this. upshot is a bit leftfield if you like that sort of thing, good if stuff crosses over into the mainstream.
