dj007 0
hi all, just got my pair of FBTmaxX4 active speakers. was going to buy the brand new maxX5 500w rms each but they were a bit to heavy for me at 27kg each so decided on the maxX4s instead. the spec is: FBTmaxX4 12" 400w rms each 50hz - 20khz sensitivity @1w/1m- 98db max spl 123db the best bit only 16kg each the worst bit £1,180 they are the lightest active speakers that i have tested but to be honest they give the best sound(in the showroom), in my opinion even beating the mackie 450 or jbl eon g2s will give them a good thrashing on friday and report back then... DJ Marky Marc 0
DJ, People here might no agree, but plug them in and run them for a few days, just play back ground music with them..... if you run them in like a set of hifi speakers they will lossen up and sound much better after a couple of days...... <a href="http://www.djassociates.org"><img src="http://www.djassociates.org/anims/compres_banner.gif" alt="Join the DJ Associates Disc Jockey Association" border="0" width="468" height="60"></a>
ChrisPointon 0
Just a point to make, before spending a lot of money on any speakers take them out 'on the road' to hear how they sound. Because what may sound good in a showroom with no ambient noise, Low ceilings and no wooden floor may sound entirely different in that large town hall with the high ceiling, stage and 200 punters. Also look at what was driving them in the showroom, I've known some dealers have a £1300 Chevin Amplifier, and DSP Processing Equipment behind the scenes to drive even budget passive speakers in an attempt to make them sound at their best!. I know that these are active but there can still be DSP equipment further up the chain. After all you wouldn't buy a car without a test drive and some speakers can cost as much as a small family hatchback http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif
Tonsk 0
I use the FBT Maxx 4 passive speakers and they are fantastic... Especially at 11kg each!! Also the fact that they are only around £600 a pair means you could buy any amp you fancy... I run them with a Alto Macro 1400 and it pumps out more than enough sound for most events! Great speakers... The Right Music - based in Norwich and covering all Norfolk and Suffolk
dj007 0
thanks for your reply guys. was unable to hire any active speakers to test first as the only hire shop in my area doesnt hire actives out. chris, your right about what they use in the showroom. they used a standard cd player running into a 20 or 24 track mixer but as you said its almost impossible to compare with when your playing with a full croud in front of you. will just have to see how tomorrow goes. dj marky marc, i havent got much time to run them in except for setting up early on friday and leave them playing for a couple of hours. i wont thrash them at first, honest! dj007 0
http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif im well happy with the FBT maxx4 actives. used them last night for the first time with a croud of roughly 200. only ran at half volume with the gain on 1 and they were loud. bass responce was good for a 12". if you want deep bass it might be best to go for the maxx5s or buy 1 active maxx9 sub bass. in two weeks playing to 500 capacity so that will be the real test. so if youve got over a grand to play with i would reccomend these.
