Data Collection Services??

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

just received a form through the door from a company called the Data Collection Services, it is basically saying that I need to register to them for a fee of £95 as I am a new business ( Mobile Disco ) and it is for the data protection act, has anybody else had to do this, many thanks,

Scott

I've had one of those last week and asked the same question on here.

Everyone seems to be in agreement that it is a scam and seems to be if you have recently registered with yell.com or yellow pages.

Look for the thread posted by me last week.

Yeah, Ignore it, Bin it, Burn it.

There was an article on the BBC's Watchdog about it about 18 months ago, they weren't targeting DJ's then, but other Small Businesses and Sole Traders, I suppose that it was only a matter of time before they got around to the Discos -Mobile section in the Directory http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif .

Has anybody actually complained to the Yellow Pages yet?, since it seems that there is a common theme here?.

Basically, the advice from Watchdog was much the same as my first line above. The communication is nothing but a scam and certainly not a requirement.

Anybody who is still concerned and wants to check directly with the Data Protection helpline can call 0870 9027 522

However the scam is also publically well documented and you can set your mind at least by reading HERE and Here

Should put your minds at rest http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif . My advice is that if they send you a pre-paid envelope, you use it to post all of your other junk mail, and something from the bottom of the Cats Litter tray back to them at their expense.

I phoned trading standards in the postal area of the return address. They were aware of the problem and were trying to prosecute but needed complainants - so I put my name forward - haven't heard from them since and that was at the beginning of the year. They haven't succeeded yet though unless this is another parasite coming out to play.

http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif I like Chris's plan of sending them some rubbish back in their prepaid envelope. (Brilliant)

I'm off to see what I can find.
