ManHATTEN Songs

Recommended Posts

Just received the booking form for a surprise 60th birthday this coming Friday and the lady has requested mainly Soul http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif and ManHatten Songs http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/533.gif

Anybody got any ideas what she means by ManHATTEN Songs (This is how she's written it on the form).

I don't really want to ring her up as she can never talk on the phone as her husbands usually around (he's the surprise birthday boy), and also she seems a little bit dizzy. (In the nicest possible way of course http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif )

The only thing that sprang to my mind was Manhatten Transfer.

Any help much appreciated.

ManHATTEN??? Considering the age (60) I'm imagining a cool Manhatten loft cocktail party type affair (but thats only 'cos I want to be invited to those sorta sofisticated do's myself) - I'd hazard a guess that it's Barbara Streisand, Neil Diamond, type stuff, and Sinatra, Ella, maybe Dave Brubeck, Count Basie if you find out they're a proper music buff crowd - but gonna need all the usual 60th birthday music as well - as we know bookers are not the best when it comes to describing what they want, and it's usually totally different to what their guests want anyway......maybe you could contact the venue and see if they've got any idea on they style of party, maybe they've been asked to do cocktails, or decorate in a certain style, anything to give you a clue......but really the only way is to speak to her and pin her down to some artists or songs - if you do find it's an easy listening jazzy type affair then I can give you some good tunes and artists that I've found usually work and they might like (latin jazz goes down a storm..)

This is a track listing from a manhatten music disc.

1. Staten Island Groove

2. Brooklyn Heights

3. Savour the Flavour

4. Muesli Brown

5. Yo Mama's So Phat

6. Touch Of Voodoo

7. 17 Mile Drive

8. Carlito's Way

9. 3 Days In Manhattan

10. On The Corner Of Darcy Street

It would also appear to cover the likes of Neil Diamond and Barbara Striesand, but the older stuff they did. No...... the really old stuff.

Could be way off but thats what it looks like.

Dunc.

are you sure she doesn't mean philidelphia? i must confess i've never heard of manhatten music, but the soul request would go hand in hand with the philly stuff and the age range matches too. i'd try and ring her to clarify if i was you,

Doh http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/stupid.gif Why didn't I think of that.

Isn't it funny how you never look for the simple answer http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/533.gif

Think I'll give her son a ring as I might get more sense out of him. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wallbash.gif

Don't think that would be any good. Try thinking of a down market "Cavern" and you'd be close to describing this venue. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/fear.gif

EDIT

Just spoke to the son in law. Philly was the nearest, it should have been Mowtown.
