Which is the best????

Recommended Posts

Hello

Im looking to purchase a brand new twin CD Player in the New Year for around the £200- £300 mark, can anyone recomend a decent player that they use or know of that is very reliable and would need to have some sort of Anti Shock in it, so when I play gigs I dont have to worry about the cd's skipping. I have been looking at the Citronic range and Numark??? Many Thanks

DJ Frankie Knuckles.

the numark CDN 30 or 35 fit right into your budget and are not bad.

you could serch the web for a denon 1800F there are some still about if you look hard

I would recommend the Denon DN-1800's as well, (I have got one).

Where I work we have about 6 CD players including the DN4000's which have superceeded the DN-1800F I think. If you could stretch to these then great as they play MP3's (and they display the track names on some retail CD's and of course on your burnt cd's).

The Numark's we have are a little bit unreliable. The Denon 1800's have everything you need with no gimmicks, unlike the DN 9000's which have everything on them, some stuff you would never use.

My Numark CDN-36 is absolutely mint. Total work horse, it has served me quite a while with no failures- although one was through my own fault and they fixed it within two days. Numark have a really good customer service hence the quick turn around.

I would go for the Numark Cdn-36 as it has all the features of a pro deck but yet with the reliability.

Depending on your music and DJing style, i would recoment the Gemini range (although my gemini is an older one with anti shock), or the Numark CDN-35 (i think). It has some super features like a flanger which make the mix "interesting".

The only UK number 1 record to contain in its lyrics the title of the song which knocked it off number 1 was... Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen (lyric: "Mamma Mia")!

I’m not too sure about the quality on Numark’s latest CD players at the moment.

My son has 2 Numark twin CD players,

His oldest one is a CDN-205, this is now about 4 years old & still going strong & at the time their cheapest in the range & as such doesn’t have anti-shock, because of this he wanted something with anti-shock & more features like BPM, flange & other effects so he went for the Numark CDN-88.

This had to go back the next day with a problem where one side would keep going off, at first we thought it was a dodgy lead between the head unit & the CD player but after changing the leads over it looked like the socket on the head unit was faulty.

The CDN-88 he has now is only 3 months old & it now seems to having a few problems, the eject button on the right hand CD unit doesn’t work (good job the one on the head unit does) & on one occasion the right side refused to eject the CD from either buttons. (It’s a good job the old CDN-205 goes everywhere with us as a backup)

It’s a shame he has had these problems with the CDN-88 because after the reliability of the CDN-205 he was happy to stick with Numark, hopefully they will sort it out when we take it back in January.

The 1800F is a good machine but I would question the wisdom behind buying what is essentially a discontinued machine. Whilst parts and servicable items are currently still available, what about in 13 months, or 24 months or 36 months time?. Even warranty repairs may be delayed by the lack of available machine specific spares.

I'm not going to pass comment on either the Citronic or Numark machines you have mentioned, but from the Denon point of view another £150 - £200 would get you one of their current products, and if replacement was not needed immediately then I would save up for a bit longer and invest in a newer model.

chris is right, save for another month or two and get a DN-4000

but i do have to say that apart from one neon light out my 1800 has never put a foot wrong in a very very long time......

and other people with them can tell you the same.

also the boys at denon were more than happy to help me out in a hurry when i did have the neon problem......

QUOTE (Dave80s @ Dec 19 2004, 07:24 PM)
the DN 9000's which have everything on them, some stuff you would never use.

I use every feature on the Denon DN-D9000 although admittedly not every feature at every gig - However with compilation CD's becoming the "norm" nowadays, the Alphatrack feature which allows you to mix two tracks off of the same CD, simultaneously gets used several times per gig. No more of that having to mix out to another CD, so that I can change tracks and mix back into a different track of the first CD again.

The Splice function, I use at every gig too (more often than not), it's great for seamlessly trimming middle sections out of songs, so that the distinct beginning and distinct end are still there (to stop the audience from yelling, "Oi! what 'appened to the end bit?", that you'd get if you faded it out early)....great for finishing with a 4 minute record, when you've only got 2.5 minutes left.

For dual rack mount CD-decks, Denons current line up, in order of features offered is the DN-D4000, the new DN-D6000, and then the top of the range DN-D9000 (reviewed here on DJU).

The DN-D6000 doesnt have Alpha-track (mentioned above), but does feature "Next Track" which allows you to choose which track you want to play next off of a CD, while the existing track is already playing, then the unit crossfades between the two tracks at your command. The unit doesnt attempt to beatmatch the two tracks (thankfully).

FrankieJ, is this purchase (in the new year) your first set of CD-decks for the disco, or an upgrade from some existing players?

I don't think I would pay an extra £400 over the 4000 for those features (and a few others admittedly!).

OK, fair enough if you can afford it, the 9000 is an impressive machine.

Although I am not too into 'being creative' much, I can see the appeal of the sampler and other toys.

One annoying fault on the 9000's I use is the jog wheel is very 'loose' and you think you have got the beat lined up and it turns a fraction when you take your hand off - and you have lost it!

The jog wheels on the DN-D9000 are loose, as this aids the scratching emulation, which the unit is pretty good at for a rack-mount - it shares similar scratch algorythms with the mighty DN-S5000, which is effectively half a DN-D9000, with a motorised platter on it.

The cue point is only affected/changed by the DN-D9000 Jog wheel until you set your cue point, either by using the play/cue buttons, or by assigning your cue point to any empty Hotstart button of the 4 available.

That's why the new DN-D6000 was created. Its price and feature level is in-between the DN-D4000 and the DN-D9000 - and the DN-D6000 has a few exclusive features itself. Besides Chris normally has some great prices on Denon kit.

Hi

Thanks everyone for your input very interesting, anyway after much research on the net i have narrowed my choice down to 1 and I thinking of buying the Citronic CD-2 at a price of around £300. Has anyone used these before if so are they any good??
