New Years Eve gig reports

Recommended Posts

I kept my promise and refused all offers. Stayed home and had a brill party with family & friends.

As a virtual tee-totaller I went absolutely berserk and knocked back 15 bottles of Stella. I was smashed. By 3.a.m everyone was either in bed or gone home except me & my son, who was visiting from Somerset.

We sat in the garden, stoking up the chimenea and knocking back the booze till after 4 O clock. Even chucked a few spuds on the fire... heaven!! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif

But boy, did I feel bad on New Year`s Day!!!

Looking forward to next year tho http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Well better late than never... but still recovering... and back at the "full time job" today so plenty of internet time (rather than gardening)

Played a mere 20 steps from home, set up during the day as the pub was closed and they were expecting a full crowd (130)

was going well till some http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/censored2.gif wasted my mirror ball.

What followed though was a great party.... very loud, very busy, very new year.

Biggest tune of the night was William Shatner, Common People.

Biggest Floor Clearer.... choice of Oops UpSide your head (strange) and Auld LangSyne (expected).

Followed new year with FlashDance (original)..... nice.

7:30 - 3am (for not alot) home by 4.

Lighting stand collapsed while breaking down.... i wasnt most sober. Still was the cheap chauvet stuff....... now for some good replacements......and a new stand.

Picked up gear day after.....back failing fast.... landlord to replace the mirrorball.

Got through 400 glowsticks, but just dont have the heart to sell them

Happy New Year all.

Nice night, 120 guests, black tie do at my residency. As with last year the meal went on for over an hour more than planned, started the disco at 11.30!

Band on for an hour after midnight, then I played the last 45 mins.....my only 2 oclock finish of the year!!!

One slight downer, the band did Midnight and totally Messed it up, stopping to shake hands with eachother rather than getting straight into ALE. Shame really, but there you go.

Kingy....bit of a strange one!!! A couple of yrs ago the band I worked with wanted to bring in NYE, which is fine, but a DJ has much more control over timings, countdown, being able to cut a song short at the exact second, and most importantly congratulating their (ticket paying) guests rather than other members of the band!!!

MY NYE party was at a conference centre, amazing place that looked over the Chew Valley where i live, i new the night was going to be difficult as the dining room and bar where in a different area to the dance floor.

Lots of kids so kept them out of the way of the parents for 3 hours playing loads of game and stuff, which i got a lot of praise for.

I also had a sound limiter which one girl managed to set of by screaming oopps!! REally good night, rounded Everyone up at about 5 to 12 and got the to form a big cicle, did a big countdown and at 12 big cheers, sound limiter trips again!!! off for a few seconds, then played old lang S

Good night had a lot of praise and good comments also the owner of the conference centre said that he was more than willing to pass my number on to other events that use the centre Result

All in all good night

Masked ball diner-dance. Provided background music durring the meal, which didn't end until around 10.30-11.00. People started to get up as they finished their food, and packed dancefloor from 10.45.

Started with 70's disco, ABBA, BeeGee's, then chart and club hits from the year up to midnight. - Call on me, Weekend, Lolas Theme, and then dance mix of BEP's Hey Mama up to midnight (always play a 120 bpm track up to midnight as people will always count down in time with the beat, however much you try to keep them on time).

Then party set/cheese after midnight for last two hours to stop anyone leaving early!

This Xmas & New Year was at a new venue, but an old venue manager for me, ie he moved venues during the yaer and asked me to DJ at his new venue.

New Years eve was a little strange, he did not charge admission and many people were there early, before going on to other venues, then they came back later because thos venues were "rubbish",

So in a pub that holds 500, we had 250-350 max, and dispite my best efforts no one really chucked it about until after 11pm, we all closed up at 1am.

the lower numbers compared to New Years eve may have been to the fact that he closed at 12.05am on xmas eve

Hi all,

had a superb NYE in a pub. It was themed as a beach party, the place was filled with sand and beachballs etc. The guests were encouraged to attend in beachwear which many did. It was packed out and we played all genres, dancefloor full most of the night. Played 8pm to 2am - knackered by then. Everyone except me was hammered (driving etc - OJ all night) but it was a great atmosphere with no trouble.

Only downside - because it was a beachparty, I will still be tipping sand out of the kit next July http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/sad.gif

didn’t want to stop for the full 2 mins so it was cut short & midnight arrived a little early

Well our midnight came too early aswell Yes the audience had no patience throughout the 2 min silence so that ended early and people didn't seem to be able to get their times quite right. Doh! But to keep everyone happy we did do the whole thing twice over, which most people found rather entertaining.

The clients were overjoyed and asked if I would come back! And it was really great to have so many people thank me for such a great evening whilst I was packing up.

Well except the lady in the red skirt who spent most of her evening scowling and swearing at me http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/nono.gif I was feeling pretty ill anyway that evening and I hope I gave her my FLU!

Why don't we start making hellium filled bubble wrap?<P> It would help keep postage costs down.

Just a Fab NYE for me

Booked to do a black tie party, first up 7-9pm was a Big Band doing all the Frank and Perry and Bing etc favs:)

The Brass section was great too! they did a Irish and Scottish Favs section, just wonderful:)

Started the disco after the food at 9.00, at round 9.45pm with Bobby Darin's Beyond the Sea, into Glenn Miller medley by the John Anderson Big Band(always a fav in N.Ireland as John Anderson is from here) into the back to the 60's medley and that was them up for the nite:) Records at 12 midnight was 3 songs:) one is a old Jimmy Shand Scottish Medley which always goes down a storm, the other is a dance version(and a good one at that) of The Boys Are Back In Town, and the third is by Harry Belafonte which has been a secret weapon at weddings etc for years:)

Probably one of the best NYE's I have done for years:)

Played a wide variety of music, even did some party games, we were supposed to finish at 1.00am, but the person who was organizing it said, play til 3am and I'll pay you extra(and yup we redid the rate for the nite:))...lets just say I walked out with a large pile of notes at the end of the gig, and I'm rebooked at the same place for next year!

all in all a top nite:)

Well NYE was my first ever paid gig. Local pub with his karaoke gear and my cd player and music. Intended it to be a one off as a favour to the landlord BUT it got me hooked and have just purchased my own gear(see my intro post). Now all I have to do is learn how to use it all in time for my next booking at the same pub. Luckily were all friends and most of the punters will be phissed so wont notice my inexperience.

This year i DJed at my residency. Although i put a vote out to the punter a couple of weeks b4 on what sort of act/show would they like this year. So it turned out to be an amazing 70.. odd % wanting to see me do Grease! Of all things it had to be http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/censored2.gif Grease. wel i did it in full costume with the local staff playing parts to. And it happened to be one of the best nights i have ever done!!! every body were up and screaming more more. in the end i did half the show again as an encore jus to shut the whole room up! finally after that finished around 11.00pm from starting at 8.00pm i went onto classic 70s disco which proved to be a floorfiller with the crowd. l8er after NY got a couple of lads up for the full monty and THEY WENT ALL THE WAY every one http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/scared.gif !!! ended up finishing with a load of dirty tunes 'yogie bare' etc haha they enjoyed it. dident pack up till 3.30am knackered http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/sleep1.gif

still learning, still experiencing, still dj,ing
