ChrisPointon 0
1. What is your DJU Forum Alias? Dynamicdiscos 2. What is your Real Name? Jane Turner (Janey) 3. What is the Name of your Disco? Dynamic Discos 4. How long have you been DJ'ing? 6 years 5. What inspired you to become a DJ? I think it was just a whim at the time. A friend of mine did it so I decided I wanted to give it a go. and here I am 6 years on. 6. What type of "Do" was your first gig? My first "Do" was a local youth club disco. I borrowed equipment from a friend and he even set it all up and packed away for me! 7. How much did you charge £30 8. What equipment did you have to begin with? The worst peice of equipment I had at first has to be my radioshack mixer. More like Radio shat the sound quality was appauling! I also had an old lyonforge amp and a pair of custom built speakers. (I still use these and wouldn't change them for the world) Although the speakers have since been re-built as one of my little projects and sound as good as JBL's now. *Proudly boasting* My pride and joy were my CDJ100's they were and still are superb. They were new out at the time I decided to put most of my savings into them at aged 16. 9. Whats the worst/most embarassing thing you've done in front of an audience? To be honest I think I've been lucky. I did manage to blow a fuse in an extention lead during the first song of a party once. But I'm sure no-one noticed as they were too busy greeting guests. I have since grown wise to extension leads with different AMP ratings! 10. What is your favourite type of function now? EG: Wedding, 18th Birthday party, etc? My absolute favourite is childrens parties. Anything from 3 year olds to 14 year olds. But I do enjoy birthdays for the 30 somethings. 11. Is there anything that you include in your show now, that you wish you'd done/known when you started? (Not equipment, but in human/performer terms) In the past I wish I had have used more audience participation with childrens discos. The more you interact with the kids the better the party goes. 12. What do you feel you offer your public, that makes you a better DJ than "the next guy/girl"? The fact that I am female REALLY helps me get more booking for chidrens discos. I in these times parents feel safer with a female doing the job. Another of our promises is that we always keep our prices low for childrens parties. 13. Have you ever bought something for your show that you wish you hadnt? and why? I did buy a mini strobe light which I never used once. I did sell it on ebay for more than I paid though! 14. Whats your next DJ purchase likely to be? I'm actually investing in my backup system at the moment. At the moment I have enough to get by, my spare amp is actually two mono block amps which take up room. I will prob compact this and buy another stereo amp. I'm also looking at karaoke. 15. If you could get someone to invent a new piece of disco equipment for your show, what would it be? Flat, fold up LED light screens! I did look at making a pair but the LED's alone would cost £300+ 16. What do you think is the best thing about DJ'ing? Seeing the audience enjoy what you do. It's really nice to get positive feedback at the end of a disco. I even got tipped for the last two I did. 17. What do you think is the worst thing about DJ'ing? Having to set up and pack away all by yourself. 18. What would make you stop DJ'ing (if anything)? When I'm too old and Wrinkly. 19. How do you think DJ'ing will change, in the next 5 years? I think more dj's will use mp3 formats for their music but I reckon mobile discos as a whole won't change that much. They haven't in the last 5 years. 20. Most stupid thing anyone's ever said to you at a gig? kids whining at you, "Are you the dj?" and "you're a girl DJ" 21. Best advice you were ever given by a fellow DJ? Carry a backup system with you. 22. And worst advice you were ever given? I don't think I have had any. 23. Name 3 songs that 95% of the time will fill you dance floor! Cha Cha Slide - DJ Casper = for the kids La bamba - Los lobos = for the middle aged crowd Swing the mood - Jive Bunny for the 50+ 24. Your Age 21 25. Your Location Bordon, Hampshire 26. Martial status Engaged 27. Education level A levels 28. Mode of transportation Rover 420 Saloon 2.0 turbo deisel (My grandad car) 29. What equipment do you currently use? My basic setup for small - medium venues. 2x cdj100's Laptop Behringer vmx100 mixer Custom built speakers various (just about to buy a new set not sure what yet) Lyonforge amp 120w per channel or an Adastra 240w per channel amp Goalpost setup 2x twister 4's 2x large light sceens 2x 4 bulb sequencers 1x Double Mushroom 4x bird of preys 1x moonflower effect 1x other funky effects light. 30. How much have you "invested" in equipment? I'm lucky I have aquired most of my equipment and am pretty good with the old tool kit! but over £3000 31. What was your reason for becoming a DJ? Because I could! I love music I'm an extrovert and love entertaining 32. Approximately how many gigs have you done to date? I have no idea. I don't usually book myself out for every weekend as I have a house to look after too. but this year I have probably done 30+ mobiles but also had a residency at a roller rink whick took up a lot of time. 33. Add Any additional Comments which you would like to include here Urm Urm Nope!
