Friday we did an 18th Birthday. Good party, all the family got up and did individual performances. Saturday we did a 50th from 12am-5pm. It was a long warm afternoon. Alot of the crowd cleared off into the other room to watch the footy!! It must have been something I said. Finally today (Sun) we've just done a 12 year old party. Was that hard work or what! Loads of Eminem (including swear words!), Good Charlotte etc....... We played the usual party tunes towards the end of the night which down brilliant. So all in all we've had a good weekend.

Well, I was looking forward to Saturday Night, a 40th fancy dress party. Arrived in reasonable time, got the equipment all set up and sweating like a pig, Saturday was hot, I asked to use the shower, it was a sports club they had a seperate mens changing facility, the caretaker got quite shirty. So after explaining to him that the guests didn't want to see me like someone who had just run the London Marathon he reluctantly showed me the 'mens locker room'.

Got back with my costume on, I make a mean Aladdin, and started off. I then thought, I'll just turn the lights on to adjust any angles etc.. and bang ! the Bloody trip switch of the room's circuit blew as soon as I turned one on. Remembering the golden rule of dj-ing problems - Don't Panic, I got the jolly caretaker to adjust the switch, checked my equipment and tried a couple of alternatives. I might as well have thrown the switch myself, both times the power was cut.

It was then the caretaker told me they regularly had this problem and it was going to be sorted out ! So I got him to explain this to the organiser,Louise, a lovely lady who was fully understandable of my position and on we went.

After about an hour, 8.30 ish after having played lots of chart and poppy stuff as requested for the young kids, Mr Grumpy, who was not in fancy dress came up to me ranting and raving, saying this was a 40's night and to put some old stuff on that he and his wife could dance to, although he doubted that I would know anything suitable. My own fuse went at this time. Mr Grumpy, was not in fancy dress, so I explained to him that this was a 40th birthday, not a 40's night and also that guests were requested to come in fancy dress. I then asked him what he normally wore during the day. I am not normally rude to punters, but it was a bridge too far !

By the end of the evening, everyone had enjoyed themselves and Louise was greatly appreciative and gave me a kiss for doing such a good job.

Every cloud has it's silver lining !!

Where was it? On the off chance I get one there!??

My gig was also a 40th.. Turned up, set up (also sweating like a pig - It was HOT in Norwich on Saturday) Everything worked ok, party girl turned up and music got started.. As a 40th (and as she had said late 80s/early 90s stuff) I played some eighties and nineties with a couple of new ones thrown in for good measure, charty stuff and then I get the "Eminems" and "Sean Pauls" requests - Which REALLY would go down well at a gig with lots of older people........... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/fear.gif

Anyway enough about that - The buffet didnt start until 9.30 (gigs ending at 11!), there was a man from the Environmental Health there so the volume is like zero and the Marquee I was doing was so hot that no body could dance!!!!

Everybody is outside (where there is a slight breeze),complaining the music was too low (even though told it would be), asking for music that is GUARANTEED to make those left inside wanting to leave!!

Some days you just can't win!!
