swanside 0 Posted February 13, 2005 Report Share Posted February 13, 2005 Hi Guys, the time has come for new speakers http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif I have an Audiohead Ah1000 which gives 500W per channel into 4 Ohms, but not too sure of the maths into 8 Ohms. So please guys, I need two things 1 Help and Advice 2 Prices. I am off work on Tuesday, so I can call into your shop and have a look to see, Ideally, I would like to be able to mount the speakers on stands so it goes over everybodys head, I have a budget to work to, as I am just starting out, so nothing too expensive. norty303 0 Posted February 13, 2005 Report Share Posted February 13, 2005 The amp gives 350w into 8R loads. I've got the same amp but rebadged by a German distributor. As for speakers, there's so much choice out there in that range and they should all be able to handle the output. Don't forget if a speaker is rated at 250wrms to 300wrms is should be able to take peaks of 450-600w so don't worry if the speaker you end up with 'appears' to have a lower rating than the amp. I started out with a pair of Electra Vision tops 250w each. they were a bit bulky, but they were excellent sounding cabs, loaded with eminence drivers. Later added Electra Vision base bins, 300w each. Now I'm using a pair of Mackie SRM450's with a pair of Skytec active subs, lovely sound. Better to spend a little more on the sound and get it spot on and spend a little less on lighting. I think all the above comments just go to show that sound is a very personal thing. Over the past 25 years I have had practically everyones speakers at some point. I like what I buy, then six months later find something else I prefer. A fool and his money springs to mind. I must say that I am particulary pleased with the HK rigs I have. I use them for all sorts of gigs, the actor rig is primarily used for large band PA, whilst the two elias rigs cater for the discos. I have some of the Alto 1x 12s which along side a pair of powered Yamaha 1x12s are used for monitoring and conference / pa jobs too. Everything I have is active and it would take a lot to turn me back. I used to use Peavey too and had very little faults with them, as long as the spec was at least the Hi-sys range. Anything else sounded wrong on the top end. As for sound lab speakers, sorry, just not for me! Ditto JBL. The mackie stuff is good, needs a little tinkering with the top end to make it smoother, but other than that, nice! Never tried the skytec stuff, so cant comment there. Sorry for being ignorant, but where does the 520w RMS come from, this speaker stuff is all new to me, plus, my amp will deleiver 500w per channel into 4 ohm, so is it ok to put 500w into a speaker rated at 250W.
