Dynamicdiscos 0
I don't really want to go all out on the best quality mic money can buy but I would really like to get my hands on a semi decent radio mic. I believe it's a UHF mic that I want with true diversity but can anyone recommend any particular brands that will be reasonable quality but not break the bank. It's got to be able to cope well with higher female voice. I will be using it mainly for leaping around on the floor when organising kids games. Also the odd wedding speach or two. I forget sturdy too (I drop things!) Why don't we start making hellium filled bubble wrap?<P> It would help keep postage costs down.

Gary 0
If you'll be heading out in front of the disco speakers then go for something with great anti-feedback characteristics, such as a Shure SM-58. So long as you point point the mic straight at the speakers as you walk past, they're pretty good at not howling the place down. I use a Shure Radio Mic system with a SM58 head, and true diversity, and have never been let down by the radio side of it, including long distances of over 200metres. (even though the manual only says 150metres). Gemini do a great range of radio mics too, they're well worth a look. Edited February 16, 2005 by Gary

MadGutts 0
I have an SM58 Dual and single diversity setup. Highly recomended ! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif However, i have recently bought an IMQ radio mic, only single diversity, and made of plactic, but the quality of the sound is fantastic ! only cost me £88 http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif The only UK number 1 record to contain in its lyrics the title of the song which knocked it off number 1 was... DiscoStudio 0
Personally I use both a Shure SM58 twin Diversity UHF, and a Sennheiser EW145. For feedback ellimination I would say the Sennheiser is the best; but for sound quality I would always put the legendary SM58 at the front of the que. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif Allways try to go for UHF radio microphone systems, because with the VHF ones you tend to get taxi interfearence. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbdown.gif <a href="http://www.djassociates.org"><img src="http://www.djassociates.org/anims/compres_banner.gif" alt="Join the DJ Associates Disc Jockey Association" border="0" width="468" height="60"></a>
DJGAVT 0
Hi, I use a JTS US902D Dual Channel Diversty Microphone system. You get 2 Mic's running off one transmitter. You had 18 different frequences to choose between on each mic. They are built very well and sound really nice! I have had alot of people say how clear everything sounds, they also have great distance reception compared to most mic's I have used. One other good thing is they retail at around £350-£400 Gav
Jimbo55 0
Cant beat the sure with sm58 For good quality value for money i would go for the Gemni at £99 I have been using them since Nov with no problems. Slightly less bass than the sm58 but a quick tweek on the mixer mic eq sorted this for me. I can not tell the audio quality difference between the two once set up. The Gemni have great battery life too. They recommend you leave a free channel between the channels you select if you use more than one mic. So out of 16 available channels you can use a max of eight mics. How long will they will last against the sure I dont know but so far they have with stood the usual Karaoke 'misuse'. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/whistling.gif DONT buy the cheap radio mics whatever you do. You get what you pay for. Gemini would be the minimum I would reommend. They do a head set version for not much more, £115 I think. Jimbo Digital Fusion Entertainments Bose L1 system user. DJGAVT 0
I think I am in the minority here, i think the JTS is better than the SM58, i got shot of mine to get the JTS.
brianmole 0
Until I lost my SM58 somewhere http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wacko.gif , I would not have entertained JTS. But in a hurry, I borrowed a JTS from the local retailer, and I beleive it is better than the SM58. I have a JTS US-901D receiver and a Mh-950 handset, ant the quality is excellent, the reception is flawless, it takes 2 x aa batteries, it is a dual diversity UHF thing with zillions of channels, and there appears to be no feedback when using it in front of the speakers http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/notworthy.gif I paid £250 - now, that is a bargain! Young lady, you are welcome to borrow it if you want to try it.
Kingy 0
I personally recommend the Sennheiser Evolution series, very good. I have one of these and three Shure Beta58 sets. I prefer the Senn.
nrgize 0
Hi, I'd defnitley recommend a Trantec microphone. Thats what I use. And when handing out microphones for people to make speeches etc, I have a cheaper Dual Microphone receiver with 2 "singing Machine" mics. I find these are very good mic's for the price and sound fine! Email :: info@nrgize-disco.co.uk
