How much is the difference between your fee and your closest competitors fee (not closest dju members fee!!!!)

For example, a competitor of mine local to me is approx £60 cheaper on adult functions (my 'living' location) yet a competitor in the area I work is £100 more expensive on adult functions?!!!!

Certainly in the Crewe area we all seem to charge between £120 to £140 per gig. To my knowledge, the biggest anomally comes when gigs last longer than four hours - some guys just have a flat rate for the night no matter how long they're playing. Whereas others, myself included, charge per hour.

Around here it varies between £90 to £150ish.

I'm bang in the middle at £120, so is my next door neighbour.

When he started last year he advertised in the local rag and was getting loads of enquiries, many more than I was, but not acctually getting any bookings.

Since he lowered his price to the same as me his bookings have gone up.

Didnt think you were having a go gavt ! As far as we are concerned as one man companies we djs agree on a price and try and stick to it. It may well be illegal but then we arent exactly petrol companies or big businesses so nobody has ever come down on us.

Its a Good idea CS! Just know it wouldnt work round where i live cause most of the DJ's around my area seem to like stabbing each other in the back! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fear.gif

Thats a shame cos there are 8 of us here all charging the same price and passing bookings to each other like theres no tomorrow. We call it the dj pool (like the typing pool) and i am sure it would work if you got all the serious good jocks in your area together.

Some charge £100 less while some charge £100 more, comments from enquiries range from “HOW MUCH you’ve got to be joking” to “Oh that’s cheaper than I thought it would be”. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif

We have tried to aim our prices at just above the middle of the market while building experience & reputation. There are those with far more experience & are true entertainers in every way & obviously worth more, http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif while at the other end of the market they arrive on horseback. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbdown.gif

Oh my favourite subject. I believe in the Guildford Yellow pages the prices vary from £80 for the cheapest, £240 is the average, I'm £375, the highest disco is £495 + VAT. But a couple of local companies charge £275 + Vat (small audio + 2 lights), their descent wedding discos go between £450 and £900 + VAT, mobile night club from £1,600 + VAT, OK I'll be honest the last group of prices are at least 3 years out of date.

Intrestingly the company charging real money keeps running out of discos - to much work. And no I don't know what they pay the DJ's, probably £150 - £200.

..playing all the hits for you...

....whether you may be....

Why can't I see what i going on???

Hi

don't care what they're charging round here, they're mainly "stick it in the corner" discos in any case and aiming at the different audience.

I'm currently out for £220 flat rate for up to 4 hours, then £30 per half hour thereafter.

I also offer a money back guarantee if we haven't done everything we say we can do, this doesn't include forcing people to dance or enjoy themselves, lol

I'm starting to push the legal angle of PLI and PAT when challenged on price.

Interestingly enough, the only people that tend to chalenge on price are calls generated from Yellow Pages, if they've called then visited the website, they rarely quibble.

I quite often get bookings directly from the site without even having spoken to the customer first, now that's trust!

And I haven't even finished it yet.

once my rig is exactly how I want it, i.e. everything looking as neet and tidy as it can be, I'll bump the price up a little more and aim for a different crowd again.

In many cases, it's not the price, it's your market. Aim at the right market and you could charge pretty much waht you like.

Aim at the wrong market and you don't stand a chance no matter what you charge.

I always wonder where this all stems from.

I try to provide the best service I can, charge what I consider to be a fair price for the amount of effort, expertise and investment. When I say investment, I have over £35,000 worth of equipment sitting here.

Now in this area, just outside Birmingham, you can get a "Disco" for £75 a night. With todays gear prices being as low as they are ( and I cant remember them ever being lower!) it is not difficult to set up a show for a modest investment. So thats the "Gear" sorted. The expertise and experience can only come with time. There is one guy round here who advertises in the paper every week as being "The best party DJ in the Midlands", and he gigs for £80-100. Thing is, He is rubbish. He has a laptop and sets it up on a camping table, two cheap speakers, dont know what amp and two of those vasto lights. He does not own a microphone!!! This guy works every weekend!!

My minimum charge is £150. I guess that the average comes out at £200.

The average round here for a disco is £140, with Many, many jocks working for less.

I am relatively fortunate and get a lot of work on recommendation and repeat bookings from satisfied clients, but do wonder exactly how the other "Discos" round here manage to get work, when the standards I have seen leave so little to make me even consider booking them.

I am not sure what the average price of other disco's is, but I know what a few friends charge, normally £250 - £300, which is lower than my fee for a party/etc, there are also many DJ's in this area in the £90-£150 price range.

with pricing you have to consider who is paying the bill, for some people £300 is far too expensive, others will feel its too cheap and others will feel that amount is just right.

This scenario works for every price, just work out how much you want to charge, and then go find the punters who will pay that amount

This topic reminded me of a similar thread from last year...Rendezvous of New Zealand.

As well as the infamous, ten page thriller that was...Rendezvous 2.

I liked Richard (Rendezvous Discos - NZ). He has obviously found his niche in the market and is working less, for more dosh. If you've got a spare 30 minutes, go back and read - it's really entertaining and very informative.

I don't really know (and I don't make any real effort to find out) what people are charging in my area. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/533.gif

I suppose I have always worked on the basis that I know what I am worth (or what figure makes sense for a gig when everything has been taken into account) and I will quote accordingly, some i'll win and some i'll lose.
