I have used an SM58 in the past (standard as well as the UHF Radio Mic) and do think they are the dogs doodah's, but, I don't really want to spend upwards of a £100 on a back up. I've heard some good things about Sennheiser and I was wondering if anyone has any other recommendations for a good sounding, solid mic, costing up to say £50 tops. It sounds good, not quite as good as my SM58 or my Beyer M260N, but good enough for backup which is why I got it. No idea what the model no is, it is packed away! Link to post Share on other sites

Gary 0 Posted March 4, 2005 Report Share Posted March 4, 2005 (edited) WOOF! Sorry, thought I'd wandered in on the Krufts Dog Show site there for a minute, with all this canine talk. I've got a set of three Behringer Ultravoice XM1800S mics in their own foam lined plastic case for £25, which I use as "customer mics" in addition to my own SM58's. The mics each have an on-off switch, and are fine for lending out to Milred or Ethel for the Raffle, or to Dynamic Dave (he's a singer in a band yer know) for that sung tribute to the Bride and Groom, thereby keeping your trusty (and pricey) main microphone, nice and safe. The XM1800s microphones dont come with leads though - which in a way is a good thing, as you're not paying an up-front/built-in price for say a 2 metre cable, when you might immediately have to ditch that, and buy a 5 metre one. norty303 0 Posted March 4, 2005 Report Share Posted March 4, 2005 I find the XM8500 are sonically superior to the SM58 but suffer from slightly worse build quality but at the price they are, they're disposable. It's much easier to get £20 for a replacement at the end of the night when 'Metal God Wannabe' has thrown it around for the duration of their set.
