Saturday night for me was a Wedding Reception. Nothing Special, had the kids dancing as per Karens Advice, for the first Hour or so with requests like R Kelly, SClub, all the usual stuff.

Very hot and humid up here on Saturday, which made it very uncomfortable and it reflected on the numbers on the Dancefloor, or maybe it was just "one of those" functions! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/mad.gif

Highlight of the night was watching Two "Embarrassing Aunties" doing Mambo no 5 and trying to get the groom to join in http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/tongue.gif , i'm sure he's dreading his wedding photo's!.

This function had a 1AM finish, but annoyingly most of the older guest's and those with young children had left by around 11.30. A 12.00 finish would have suited the general age group better, but no! - we had to drag on right until the 1AM finish with only 4 people in the room http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/mad.gif

Another mixed weekend for me.

Friday - Beach Party (Thanks Disco Direct) 80% ethnic crowd loads of Reggae, Calypso, Bossa Nova's, Samba's some disco, a little cheese but not much.

doors opened at 8pm, by 9pm I had a full dance floor.

had about 15 people come & shake my hand and thak me for a great night.

ALWAYS MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD TO DO A GOOD JOB

Saturday - Sharon was singing so I went with her, (only one of us works each night) she had them all dancing.

interesting there was a party in thye next room, the DJ had all the gear, masses of lights etc, but no personality and he was playing music that I would never think of playing (good tunes but just wrong). The most I ever saw dancing was 10 people out of 100 people.

a lot of the guests came into the club bar & danced to Sharon.

Tonight Sharon is singing again, in a pub in West London, its called the Generator, Compton Ploace W1, if any of you fancy a good night out, I'll even buy you a beer http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/071.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/071.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/071.gif

Last night was a small gig for 33 people - eventually got started at 10 after the prize giving & finished at 12. The karaoke transformed what could have been a quiet/boring night into one everybody enjoyed. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I only introduced karaoke last year after losing several gigs on the trot because they wanted it & I couldn't supply. Now I'm glad I did - it's an extra string to the bow.

Saturday night brought about one of those gigs that make you think, so i have taken the booking..... Basically it was my own 20th anniversary school reunion. ( thanks alot friendsreunited).

I knew there was going to be alot of standing around and talking, so was thinking there would only be about 30 mins of dancing. As thats what happened at our last reunion 15 years ago.

No such luck the night rocked 2 hours of non stop 80's. It the end it was a great night lots of fun, meet up with some old friends and the people i didn't like at school, i still don't like them lol.

And as an added bonus my other half has decided on a venue for our wedding reception. Wonder what the house dj is like??????????

That's quite a worrying thought!. What would have happened if one of them had got hurt!, I think legally there has to be one adult to every so many kids at functions like this. It should never be left to the D.J to be supervisor and guardian to so many kids http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif . Surely somebody had to take the responsibility for them?.

Yes, as Adults we do all that we can to stop the little http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/censored.gif leaping off the stage, fighting and generally being a pain in the http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/censored.gif , but somebody else should have been in charge. I would have packed away and driven home, if i'd have been left in that situation. No way, would I have taken responsibility for the safety and behaviour of somebody else's kids.

I had a bloody fantastic gig last night - it was an "old School Disco" in a pub in cranleigh. so loads of drunk girlies in school uniform http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif

well anyway - it was about 10 to eleven and id just called last orders - to deafening shouts of boooo from the crowd. the place was absolutly packed - i even had people dancing outside in the beer garden/car park which annoyed the residents slightly - not my fault tho - what could i do? anyway i continued after last orders with summer of 69, Geno etc all singalon songs when Mr policeman turns up due to some complaints from the local residents - it so happened that i had hot chocolate in the cd player - so couldnt resist "come on then girlies - looks like your stripper has arrived" to which about 30 school uniform clad girls surrounded him shouting "TAKE IT OFF" - he was soo embarassed it was hilarious but he took it all in good spirit which was lucky for me - now the pub are thinking of making the night a more regular event!

Was really one of those gigs which reminds u how much fun it CAN be. Hope you all had good gigs too.

Friday we did a wedding disco, the groom was a chartered account so all his clients were there, really boring night I had left request slips on all the tables AND pens but no-one filled them. Saturday was a lot better, we had a wedding disco at one of hotels. The only downside was NO BUFFET!!!! Luckily the guests started dancing from the word go and did'nt stop all night. There was a bit of a scuffle during the evening but it kicked off at the back of the room so no-one really noticed. We were asked for card at the end of the night and promise of some more work from the Hotel itself. So a good weekend all in all. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif

I was only working Friday night this week.

At my usual place, the golf club, it was one of the owners daughter's 18th birthday.

The food was great, a top class barbecue and having finished work on Friday and gone straight and set up I was asked to partake.. I didn't need asking twice, I was starving although I remembered my manners and didn't fill the plate like in the Scooby Doo cartoons !

Regretfully it all went rather downhill after that. There just weren't enough girlies. It seems that young lads of 17-19 just want to sit round, playing with their new fangled mobile telephone instead of dancing. Then they come up and give you a load of grief about not playing enough R'n'B, when you've just put on R Kelly, Nelly, Mis-Teeq, J-Lo and Christine A.

I later found out that her mum and step-dad had split up that week, so in the end it was pretty understandable that everyone was not in a jolly-jolly mood.

In respect to an earlier topic, what was also popular as a lot of the 'old-skool' stuff although looking at the cd they gave me it was just about every classic dance track prior to '96, Faithless - Insomnia, The Original - I Luv You Baby, Robin S - Show Me Luv etc.. whatever the style was at the time, it's now classified 'old skool'.

Me, I'm just confused http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/huh.gif !

Friday was a local lower school PTA organised disco. About 170 adults and children. Dance floor busy all night! Played a few games...too many kids to play seriously. Finished about 9.15 (the bar had run out of drinks!).

Saturday night, same venue (great no setting up!!!!) for a 50th birthday. I was given a box of CD's and asked to play them!!!! They were OK for background music but after the food everyone was getting bored. What do you do? Afterall if the person paying you wants to here their type of music then it is up to you to do so. By about 10.30 I was given free reign to get the party started!!! Loads of great 80's stuff. 1am finish

Friday night for me was a joint 40th (Bexleyheath, Kent)

Too many people invited - they had no choice BUT to dance!!!

It went very well.

Saturday, private all nighter in Benfleet, Essex. Whole street invited, and then some.

Started at 7.30pm as first few guests arrived.

Finished at 5.30am as last few guests left!

Very amusing, saucy and typically Essex. Takes me back to a field near the M25 in 1991!!!

Sunday - absolutely fu http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/censored.gif d!! And I'm still suffering!!!

My legs look like stilton!

Saturday Nights gig was a wedding...They were out of the function room nice and early, leaving me a good two hours to set up...(for a change).

The weather was very hot, sticky, and the venue sheltered from any breeze... This led to several problems. Firstly, much of the crowd was understandably keen to stay outside rather than come in...except for the old fogies who feel cold even with 6 layers of thermals on...Also the venue had a bar in a different room to the dancefloor. So, I had potential party-goers split over 3 area's...only one of those area's was within easy earshot of the dancefloor.

Held my mini-interview with the Bride & Groom (confirm that they havent changed their minds on the first record, confirm buffet and bar times, confirm their departure time (for arch etc), check whether they had a hen/stag night each, check honeymoon location, check whether they'd like background music during the buffet or Dance'or'eat levels...(eg: normal)....and time of first record.

Without "washing your dirty laundry in public" Ive found that if you announce your "On-the-night problems" with the audience, they generally show some understanding and are generally on you side (especially where noise limiters are concerned). So...I knew that I'd have to turn the MIC up really loud for those outside, and in the bar area to hear me, to get them in for the couples first dance. However, all the Aunty Agetha's and Grandpa Joes, were sitting inside already...probably whinging about the music levels already (at background levels), so, I quietly announced on the mic, what I was about to do was neccesary, but LOUD, and suggested that they might want to stick their fingers n their ears, but re-enforced the idea that no-one would wont to miss the First Dance.

The humdity also ensured that the Fire Doors remained proped open all night, which meant that some of the "neighbours" would probably be hearing more of the music than they cared to, especially as their windows were probably going to be open too. I again, announced that the firedoors COULD stay open, but that I'd have to reduce the volume for the night if the doors were open. We took a vote on it...the doors won, and the levels were lowered by about 15 to 20%

The only downside to the actual night was that I "popped" my knee again http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/014.gif , during my Blue Brothers routine, and am still having trouble with stairs...but...another couple of days should see me alright...oh the things we do to help our audiences enjoy themselves totally.

Dunno where that was, but the youth club down where I work is allowed 50 kids for 5 members of staff (ie 10 per 1 adult (over 18)). Not sure on the legal side of that, if it was a private do then who knows, but we (legally) wouldn't be allowed to do that here down south (souf), whoever organised that should be shot. heh.

Even DJ's who come to any discos we get them in for either have to be police checked first or have a member of staff standing by them all night, but then ours is a co(u)ncil run centre..

*shudders* if something had gone wrong that night, the s:cense:t woulda flown!
