I am trying to get my old collection of wax cylinders onto mp3.

Back in ye olde days - every computer had a cassette deck....... every progrma that you loaded, or data that you wanted to save, was on a audio cassette.

Worst of all, some programs took several minutes to load - on the Commodore 64 you'd be waiting anything upto 35 minutes for some programs to load, and maybe upto 20 minutes on a Sinclair spectrum.

Many game instructions went along the lines of:

Type "LOAD"

Press Enter

Press "PLAY" on your cassette deck

Wait.

The flashing coloured borders which the Spectrum showed when the game was loading were great, every kid walked around with a wide eyed zombie expression (ok, so not much as changed) .

Of course, you could wait 15 minutes for Monty Mole to load, and then find right at the very end there would be an error and you'd have to rewind and start again http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wacko.gif , so more red / yellow flashing borders!.

Nowadays the flashing borders have been replaced with windows error boxes, dll errors and the blue screen of death and not to mention worn Ctrl+Alt+Del keys on every keyboard! - could Bill Gates be Clive Sinclairs younger brother? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/scared.gif

I still have my Spectrum 48K, and it still works. I loaded Manic Miner a few weeks ago. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif I also still have the modem but sadly I don`t know how to get it to access modern ISPs. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/014.gif But it was a lot of fun "back then" http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif
