Last night I was asked to play a couple of tracks which I havent played for ages, and they were recieved really well by the crowd.

The one that was the biggest cheer raiser :Steve Walsh "I found lovin'". Forgot how good this sounds.

Suprise considering it was a mainly 50ish age group of Freemasons!

QUOTE (Hugmaster @ May 1 2005, 12:25 PM)
disappointingly enough in the last couple of days I've come down with a sore throat and cold waiting to happen so I had to postpone the staying awake thing, just in case it does more damage.

Sorry to hear that, Darren. But how did you manage to give it to C.S. as well?

Anyway, weekend report.

Saturday, arrived at pub for normal Sat night to discover that it was a 60th birthday party. Mary forgot to mention it! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif

Luckily it didn't make any difference as the party was mostly female, age range from mid-20s up and they wanted mostly 70's/80's disco, with a touch of reggea and a few slowies. Male customers in the pub were only too willing to join in.

Floor fillers Mavericks, Amarillo, Rock Your Baby, Feels like I'm In Love and Let's Hear It For The Boy. Decided to have a change with Gloria Gaynor and played Never Can Say Goodbye instead of I Will Survive. It went down really well.

Fav slowies of night were Stylistics You Make Me Feel Brand New and Eagles Best Of My Love, both requests.

Monday, up to Diss to check out football club for birthday later in year. Decided I only need the small set-up as not very big with low ceilings. Too many lights would swamp the place and fogger not needed either.

But no sound limiter and very easy access and helpful manager. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif

Detoured to Cambridge to pick up a retro light box for 70's/80's disco nights which I bought on e-bay for £36. Interesting pattern, a butterfly! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/whistling.gif

You want me to play what?

Isn't it funny how things turn out.

At last nights wedding, I seemed to be suffering a senior moment all night. I couldn't seem to think of 2 tracks to stitch together, I was jumping about from genre to genre, style to style all night, no flow to the music at all. I even got the grooms name wrong at one point and said "**** & Paul" http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/oops.gif

However, the evening left me with such a buzz I've been itching all day to get on here and tell you all about it.

One of those venues where they have to empty the room after the wedding breakfast to re-arrange it and put the dance floor down. Finally got into the room about 8:30, for what should have been an 8 start. Set up by 9, the new smaller rig makes setting up so much easier. Managed to coax people back into the room about 9:15 to do my welcome at 9:30.

"Good evening everybody, welcome to **** & ****'s evening wedding party etc., etc., - To get the evening started, The buffet is now open"

Got the bride & groom onto the dancefloor for their first dance at about 10:15, and as they had previously requested, got others up to join them half way through.

Followed the first dance (Groovy Kind Of Love) with Boys Town Gang - Can't take my eyes off you, using the long intro to coax people on to the dance floor.

I kid you not, within about 30 seconds, the dancefloor was packed, and if there had been a sound limiter, they would certainly have tripped it. And so it continued all night, despite my worst efforts.

No matter what I played (apart from Liquid Gold), the dancefloor was packed with happy smiling, laughing faces. Even though I was still brain dead, I did a "cheeky/riskae(sp)" set including Sex On The Beach after midnight which went down a storm with both old and young.

The night finished with a standing ovation, most people having stayed till the 1am finish. Loads of thanks and well dones, especially from the bride and groom.

What a buzz http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/cool.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/cool.gif , even though I was working on another planet.

Also met one of the other DJ's that was doing one of the other rooms at the hotel, a very nice chap call Alex from Manchester.

Covered 3 "Ice Discos" at the local rink over the weekend, which can be a real pain because you tend to get the same people at every session asking for the same songs over and over again (which is why I now hate Akon with a passion).. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fear.gif

Anyway, covered the Saturday night (painful), then the Sunday afternoon session (more pain & exactly the same music as Saturday night)... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif ........at the end of the session I was talking with the rink manager and he was saying how boring it was having the same music all the time and how the next session (Sunday night) was supposed to be 70's, 80's & 90's only but the normal resident DJ who I was covering for always played the same set as a Saturday.

So we stuck to our guns and decided to go with 70's, 80's & 90's all night and it was great! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif

So many people came up and said thanks for changing the music as it was so repetitive!

Managed to get in some great 90's dance classics as well, class http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif

What a nightmare... We turned up nice and early for our gig on friday. So early that I went to visit another venue that I'm booked in next month. Then drove onto the venue for that afternoon and found a load of oldies in there having a meeting. We were still way to early so parked up and walked to the local pub for some food.

Just as we are walking back up to the venue entrance, the party host is ringing my phone to tell me that they had double booked the church hall. The host was a little stressed at this point but decided to direct everyone to her house to hold the party their. Just as we are about to pull away. The organiser for the venue had managed to find another hall just down the road.

Fortunately due to an arson attack the painters had been in decorating and there were no bookings that afternoon. So we carted our stuff down there and set up (Only 10 minutes late)

Well we offered to over run at no extra cost if they wanted us too, as quite a lot of the guests were 20 minutes late. After all that the hall was much better than the original and the kids enjoyed themselves. We only had to over-run by 15 minutes and got tipped a little extra.

So it turned out good after all.

Why don't we start making hellium filled bubble wrap?<P> It would help keep postage costs down.

On Saturday I had a Sixth Form Ball.................

Played with this band www.paperjam.org.uk

I ran my gear through their l'acoustics/ev setup, and used my gemini actives as monitors...

Had a really good night, it's nice when people come up to you and say when are you back on we would rather have you!

Had virtually a full dancefloor from 9 (after the meal) to 1pm when it finished!

Got a 20 tip as well!
