Am I missing any others?

Why don't we start making hellium filled bubble wrap?<P> It would help keep postage costs down.

Other. Custom-made velcro on curtains, box pleated at the top. Fits in about 7 seconds and looks clean and professional.

I currently use 4 x 2ft (about 6ft apart) light screens and a red shiny/satin-look cloth hung between them.

The lightscreens and the red cloth are going to be replaced by a 12ft wide Starcloth with colour changing fibre-optics soon...as soon, that is, as I can get around to glueing all the fibre-optics in.

Up above, all the nasty overhead metal rigging is hidden by a black material, stitched into box pleats, hanging down about 8 inches - velcro'd over the top bar.

I'm planned on getting some more fabric soon, to cover the vertical poles which support the overhead rig.

4Ft x 2Ft 6in light box.

Includes two 2 x 2ft screens and a 4ft x 6in illuminated name plate.

Hides all my wires and stands infront of my 19inch rack unit.

Quality isn't expensive......................it's PRICELESS

Many Thanks,

Derek.

Nice smart looking black cloth. Soon to get some cut to fit around the edge of my tables using velcro.

I have a dark blue cloth over the front of when I use the larger rig we have. I can't bring myself to buy lightboxes, there is just something about them!

Does anyone know how much a starcloth is?

Too much!! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/laugh.gif

Theres a thread somewhere on here about making one yourself for a fraction of the cost.... you can even use fibre optics with a source that changes colours, this would be even better than the ready made ones you can buy.

I use a black cloth but will probably have a go at making my own starcloth one of these days.

Starcloths are typically unbeleivably expensive, and are often the wrong shape/size for mobile discos to use as frontage.

There are some premade starcloths available in a 8ft square frame, but they're more for backing eg: between the DJ and the blank magnolia wall behind him/her. Worse still, one of the more common 8x8 frame starcloths are made from a plasticy material rather than the "proper" black wool serge - which is almost impossible to crease.

ChrisP put together a DJU thread on how to "Build your own star cloth", and there are various places which you can buy the material, and either fibre optic or colour changing LEDs on a cable (eg: Christmas tree stylee) from. But its then time, time, time.

black board sign written with disco name surrounded by Fun Fair lights that chase intermingled with strobo lamps. Then two home made light boxes wired to colour co-ordinate with above mentioned lamps. Light boxes have fairground turbo lights in them and look fantastic. Never have to replace the bulbs either.

Black cloth. Cheap and effective.

And what's wrong with light screens - they're classic disco!

I think you've answered you own question right there! Those lightboxes remind me of a carnival sideshow- all you need are clowns heads with open mouths for the ping-pong balls and you'd be there. You'll need to stock up on teddy bears and other prizes of course...... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/laugh.gif

You missed out carpet!! Not for me I might add but I was at a function a few weeks ago and the DJ in the other room had a piece of carpet at the front which still had some of the roll left at the side. When he left his gear he unrolled the spare bit as far as the wall to create a barrier.

Oh by the way I went for 'Starcloth'

Hi

I went for black cloth, and it looks bloody awful so as soon as the other DJ guy gets time we're gonna do a DIY start cloth.

I think the problem with light boxes is that DJ's know that other DJ's don't like them. As far as the punters are concerned, they don't give a dogs doodar, in fact it gives them something to look at if all else you have are black boxes hanging off a bar.

We have 2 sections of MDF on our stands that are hinged to stop at 90 degrees, acting as both table & front plate. The front section has a black cloth attached with velcro. On the front of this is more black velcro strip to which we can attach/detach our logo, depending if it's our job or an agency one. We use this system on all our rigs . I like the idea of covering crossbar/uprights as well, I'll have to put my thinking cap on to see what would work for us.
