I have just been given the opportunity to do a weeks DJ-ing in Amsterdam at a holiday centre (I haven't got all the details yet)

Have you any good advice you can give me-NO not the one about condoms-any pitfalls to look out for. http://www.chrispointon.f2s.com/Forum/html/emoticons/cool.gif

This is not a rehearsal

This is it - grab it while you can.

Only the usual things that your parents tell you when your 16 and going on your first holiday:-

Don't drink the water

Don't eat any dodgy food

Pack plenty of clean underwear

And along the lines of your post - Remember to always wear your wellies when you go paddling http://www.chrispointon.f2s.com/Forum/html/emoticons/wub.gif

On a more useful note, I'm told nights out are very cheap - You can go clubbing, Have a meal, and pay for a "bit of the other" and still have change from 50 Euros!

Or So I'm told............Ahem! http://www.chrispointon.f2s.com/Forum/html/emoticons/tongue.gif

1st - Make sure you have a written contract - a good written contract.

2nd - The client pays and supplies you with a two way open return ticket - If things go t*ts up, at least you can get home

3rd - Subject to duration, a percentage up front, another percentage half way through and the balance during the final week - All paid by bankers order / direct to your bank account.

If ever you get the chance of a cruise, you want passenger status, this gives you a good cabin, good food, and you don't have to "double up" during the day with deck games etc.

..playing all the hits for you...

....whether you may be....

Why can't I see what i going on???

Yes the importance of contracts are something that we have not yet touched on in this forum. Maybe we could raise a topic elsewhere, especially if you have experience of such things http://www.chrispointon.f2s.com/Forum/html/emoticons/wink.gif

Even "regular" contract or block bookings within the UK are better in written form, although a lot of D.J's still rely on "Gentlemans Agreements" with their clients, which sometimes can lead to problems, especially if you only have one roadshow and have turned down a lot of future private functions on the strength of a promised Resident Gig at a pub or function room every Saturday and it never actually works out, or the 3 month term only actually turns out to be 3 weeks http://www.chrispointon.f2s.com/Forum/html/emoticons/sad.gif
