Good advice - I try to keep my music playing machines away from everything else. Only one of them has iTunes so that I can buy music, but I tend not to use this one live.

Cheers,

Jack.

I see your 3 laptops and a desktop for the kids and raise you 2 laptops for DJ'ing, one for general use, one for the wife, one in the attic gathering dust, a desktop for each of the kids, one for recording music and one as a media server!

What do you mean "this isn't PartyPoker.com"?

The poker machine is in the garage.

The porn machine seems to be in the sons bedroom

The Barbie machine is in my youngest daughters bedroom

The AutoTrader computer is the other daughters machine

The main one is in the dining room

That leaves me no room so I needed another laptop for business so I can use it whilst 'doing other things'!

.....but what do I know ?

What is the read-out like for artist / track name? I looked on the Denon website but the videos didn't show it too well. Is the display large enough to prevent endless scrolling? - makes them difficult to read otherwise.

Not used the D6000, but I use two S1000's, which I think are pretty much the same kit, but in tabletop form. The track name has a fair amount of space, but not enough for a whole title if it's quite lengthy. When you first click onto the track, it scrolls it then it just displays the first part of the title statically. I haven't had any problems with this and find it easy to read, but it might be a bit tricky if you can't see the difference between the "radio edit" and "full of cursing edit" at the end of the track name. But, like I said, I haven't had any problems.

No good for the song title

'When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts He Thinks Like a King What He Knows Throws the Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He'll Win the Whole Thing 'Fore He Enters the Ring There's No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might So When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You'll Know That You're Right.

by Fiona Aplle in 19999 then ?

Sounds really good - I must get a demo next time I'm through in Glasgow - I like the idea of being able to play 2 tracks at the same time from the same CD.

Sorry, should have said this in my reply too.

Another trick with the S1000 (and presumeably the D6000) is that you can use the built in "echo" effect to set up a loop, leave it playing while you eject the CD, load in another CD, pick a track to play, then when you hit play, it fades the loop out as the new track starts to play. So it's kind of like a crossfade between two different CD's, only using one deck. I've used that a couple of times to get out of tricky situations!

That's what I was worried about LOL. It's the same on the iPod - difficult to pick the right track if there are various versions, as Ian states above.

Cheers,

Jack.

If you'd like to see the whole track title/info scroll past again, press the "Title" button on the DN-S1000, or DN-D6000. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif

Out of interest, how many of us perform routine maintenance on our laptops/PC's? I Scandisk and Defrag thoroughly every month.

I've just started using a laptop for my gigs.

It works really well.

Fortunately for me, my hubby is a computer engineer, so he does the maintenance etc.
