Friday - Durham University 12 - 2am (2 hours) - (obtained from "Gig Reguests" in this forum).

It was the Durham University 'Van Mildert College' end of year ball.

Two rooms of music - Room 1 [a large hall] had bands on until 1am then a DJ 1am - 2am, Room 2 [a smaller room, 200 capacity] had bands on until 12 then a DJ (me) from 12 until 2am.

Arrived at the venue after getting a lift from the other DJ, at around 11pm. Both rooms had bands playing, with probably no more than 50 people in each room watching. Everyone else was outside around the building, in the grounds of the college, on the grass and sat around their very nice lake they have.

Midnight came and I went on stage to do my set. The room filled with about 250 people within 20 minutes or-so, (I was playing 90s, and r&b, as instructed).. to the point that by 1am people were piling onto the stage next to me, crammed in through the doors (very little security) - but the atmosphere was great! No trouble whatsoever. The room was all in darkness except for four VR8 scanners on the stage, scanning the room from behind me. Looked very nice. Did a lot of mic work (appropriate kind of stuff for a couple of hundred very drunk students!!).

1am came and the band in the other, larger room, finished, and everyone who was watching them emptied into my room. It came to 1.20am and the organisers had still not setup the DJ gear in the other room for the other DJ to start, so they told him not to bother!! I ended up doing the whole gig in my room. (we both got paid however).

2am came very quickly and there was meant to be an accoustic band on after me (however no sign of them yet...) so I carried on playing as the room was jammed packed. Eventually at 2.10 an organiser came to ask me to play "just one more", which I did, much to the crowds annoyance! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif

Saturday - 18th Birthday at a Cricket Club in Lancashire. 8pm-1am. 150 people.

Arrived at 7pm to set up, outside temperature was still 28c, the room I was in felt a lot hotter! (no air-con). I setup in the only available space - a corner of the function room at the end of a 'dancefloor'. Tables and chairs were arranged around the dancefloor and there was a long bar right at the back of the room...

Birthday boy's parents came to me just before 8 and asked me just to play background music for the first 2 hours as they now planned to congregate outside on the grass as the weather was so nice. They then asked "can we move the disco outside?" ... I would have done if it weren't for the fact that if on the off-chance it decided to rain, I'd be screwed, and there were no power sockets near the doors http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif. Plus I didn't fancy moving any gear around punters who were milling about all over the place.

I pointed my speakers as far in the direction of the double doors as possible (by request).

Managed to get everyone inside at 10.00pm for the cake, singing happy birthday etc etc... then kept just over half the people inside dancing until midnight, until most trickled outside again as the heat inside was pretty unbearable.

12-1am was left with most of the mums, grannie's, and auntie's etc - one of which decided to grab my http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/363.gif as I was searching through my CaseLogic - (the 18 year olds were getting hamered outside), so tailored my music for them.

Had seven people come and shake my hand at the end, usually a tell-tale sign I've done well!

[Thanks to TonyJ for the equipment http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/notworthy.gif ]

A quite good weekend I think http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/042.gif

Sunday - filling in my application to join Lancashire's 'Special' Constabulary... will take me a good few hours!

Saturday Night was at the Marriot Hotel nr Altrincham for a Wedding. Usual Wedding set up, arrive at 6pm as (strictly) instructed, but only actually got access to set up at 7.15pm http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/rolleyes.gif .

Luckily the function room was air conditioned so, other than setting up and packing away the heat wasn't really a problem, although it hit you like a wall when you stepped out to load the van. Scorchio!.

Not a bad night, could have been better if there hadn't have been about 25 under 7's running around the dancefloor screaming and sliding around. I think this really does make getting the adults dancing far more difficult.

Was booked until 1.00AM, but with their being so many families there with young children most of the guests had left by about 11.45, so the Bride and Groom told us to finish at 12.30 instead.

The only thing about this venue was that the car park had a £5 parking charge http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/scared.gif and ticket controlled barriers. Of course I had no intention of paying this, and after a bit of deliberation with the Hotel Staff, we finally got a get out of jail free card!. The problem was that it was issued on 18th, and expired on the 19th, so since it was after midnight (and the 19th) the card was swallowed, rejected and the barrier remained closed.

Roadies do come in handy, especially when it comes to manually lifting barriers as you drive under them http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/whistling.gif . Now, I must remember to put a parking charges cause in my booking confirmations.......
