John Kidd 0
OK Guys, "I'm a Commercial DJ, doing weddings and Dinner Dances and A few Birthday Partys and school shows. Music seems to be getting away from me and i need to catch up with the different trends and styles!" Does that sound Familier? So i ask you all, What is Drum and Bass? DJ Marky Marc 0
the Junior Reid , One Blood DnB remix is first class... Real drum and bass never realy crossed over so its going to be hard to please everyone... Why not grab one of those TEscos best of drum and base albums.... <a href="http://www.djassociates.org"><img src="http://www.djassociates.org/anims/compres_banner.gif" alt="Join the DJ Associates Disc Jockey Association" border="0" width="468" height="60"></a>
Danno13 0
The closest commercial track i can think of is Shy FX - Shake your body.. ok, to a purist it probably won't be classed as DnB.. but its pretty close. Dave80s 0
Shy FX - Shake Your Body, 'Barcelona' (can't remember who it is by), Puretone - Addicted to Bass. Nelly - Dilemma (dnb mix of course), Kelis - Millionaire (dnb mix again) - various other rap, rnb songs have DnB mixes. DJ Zinc vs MVP - Rock Ya Body (mic check 1,2) DJ Marky/XRS - LK, 'Brown Paper Bag', (can't remember who it is by again) Just buy a DnB CD which will have all these on and more.... Gary 0
"got any..." genre requests fall into the same realm, in my opinion, as requests for "got anything by...artist" which normally means "I'll tap my foot, or jerk my head'n'neck in time to the beat" but no life added to the dancefloor. Therefore, I'll always ask for a particular track from the requestor. Good examples of commercial D'n'b to my mind would be the 2 mentioned above eg: Totally addicted to bass, and Shake your body
brianmole 0
Aaahh, D&B! This genre has a huuuge following, lots of music is produced by its fans too. Now then, my favourite track has to be: DJ Marky & XRS - LK: it has a wicked beat, and the melody is excellent - will not offend anyone. Dave80s has the idea with some brilliant choices: QUOTE Shy FX - Shake Your Body, 'Barcelona' (can't remember who it is by), Puretone - Addicted to Bass. Nelly - Dilemma (dnb mix of course), Kelis - Millionaire (dnb mix again) - various other rap, rnb songs have DnB mixes. And one which works an absolute treat is a very familiar sounding mashup by a very good friend of mine DJ Paul Velocity who also happens to have designed SEDAs new website for us. Another DnB tune from about 1997: Adam F - Circles You might even be able to fob 'em off with some old classic Speed Garage: Deeper by Serious Danger....Gunman by 187 Lockdown etc etc...Depends on how well up on the genre they are though! The Moog 0
It's not a thing that has ever taken off round these parts but I have played Goldie's - Inner City Life (roni size remix) in the past..... nice tune http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/flirt.gif Strangely enough.... back in the late eighties, I believe a mate and I accidentally discovered Drum and Bass (well, the drum bit of it anyway). We used to have a home studio and inspired by the likes of Kevin Saunderson and Derrick May we were set to make our mark on Detroit Techno history (okay... North Leeds Techno then http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/533.gif ). All went to plan until our beloved drum machine went haywire.... it started coming out with all manor of random multiple rhythm pattens http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/scared.gif In spite of out best efforts, it was totally shot (possessed by some otherworldly force, I thought) and the sounds it was making were too complex for our tastes! Luckily... the manager of the shop where my mate purchased it, was sympathetic to our plight and gave us a well behaved replacement. We never made our mark on the obscure North Leeds dance scene (The old artistic differences... we were both devoid of artistic merit.... only in differing ways!) but I am convinced that the drum machine we returned somehow fell into the hands of the man who, inspired by it's bizarre antics, is referred to, in circles far too underground for me to mix in, as The Godfather Of Drum and Bass http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif Well.... that's my theory anyway!!! Dynamite Discos 0
I get asked for a couple of tunes at most 18ths and 21sts Most of what has been said above is good tho (im repeating most of it i think probably but bear with me) - basically i play all the more tuneful commercial stuff that even people who aren't into DnB will recognize. Barcelona is also by DJ Marky and XRS - almost as good a track as LK! You can even get away with things like Basement Jaxx - Good luck - not strictly Drum and Bass but close enough - and loved by the masses. DJ Zinc (i think) remix of the Fugees - ready or not is quite good Roni Size did Brown paper bag - a classic Inner City life - Goldie is another classic then a bit more hardcore you get things like chopper, the terrorist, lighter etc but most of these are best avoided unless you have a pretty hardcore crowd! QUOTE Played-A-Live Safari Duo - i wouldnt call drum and bass but whatever works for you! Hope this helps
