DJ Marky Marc 0
There is so much choice in the 300 - 400 Watt range... How big do you want them.. plastic or wood ? what do you have already that they need to blend in with ?? Whats the realistic budget ?
desperatedan 0
Well looking for a set that will cover most functions i get ie weddings, corporate events, karaoke etc... At present I have a pair of mcgregor 300w rms blue carpted speakers which are okay but not brill think of trying to sell them to fund new speakers possible. and also a set of small 125w rms speakers which get used for small pub karaoke gigs. ( with a smaller amp obviously) Cant really give budget price at mo as got to save penny's so trying to work out what i need to save up too if that makes sense. cj_65 0
I would think about trying to borrow an active sub (eg a Mackie SWA1501) to go with your existing amp and the McGregor's - you plug the amp into the high-pass output from the sub and the difference will be pretty amazing. I use this with a similar speaker/amp combination. The McGregor's are generally very good unless you want to spend quite a bit more. Cheers, Chris.
desperatedan 0
Thinking of running both existing speakers thorugh amp for time being. Is there a best way to have them set up ie plug smaller one is to amp then link from small speakers to mcgregors or vice versa ?? norty303 0
Your Warrior amp is probably 2 x 500w @ 4ohms too which means its realistically only giving 300w @ 8ohms maximum. You may not be getting everything that you can out of a 300w-400w speaker and if you try to go louder you may well end up clipping your amp causing driver failure where a 500w amp was safely within limits. It doesn't matter which order you connect the speakers if you're paralleling them, the amp will just see a single load of the combined impedance of the 2 boxes. e.g. 2 8ohm cabs will be a 4ohm load. The power it puts out will hit each cab evenly. Edited June 28, 2005 by norty303 DIY plans and pro audio related technical discussions www.speakerplans.com/forum
