1970 saw only 14 songs hit the coveted No.1 spot.

Whilst Christie, Smokey Robinson and Jimi Hendrix all only held the top position for a week each with "Yellow River", "Tears of a clown" and "Voodoo Chile" respectively, at the other end of the scale, Mungo Jerry sunbathed in the glory of 7 weeks of "In the summertime" being the nations favourite single.

Elvis': The wonder of you, and Freda Paynes: Band of Gold, both achieved No.1 for 6 weeks, as did Dave Edmunds "I hear you knockin'"

Edison Lighthouse: Love grows (where my Rosemary goes) did the business for 5 weeks.

1970 was also the year that saw Lee Marvin stay at No.1 following his "Wandrin' star" for 3 weeks, as did Matthews Southern Comfort (I'll have a double!) "Woodstock". - Simon & Garfunkel took 3 weeks to cross their bridge over troubled water (I'd have made a run for it personally). Not running quite fast enough however, were the England World Cup Squad, who spent 3 weeks at No.1 (probably longer than they spent in the running for the World cup 533.gif )

Following up behind was Norman Greenbaum with his Spirit in the sky (I prefer my spirit in a glass cheers), and Dana's "All kinds of everything" both holding the top spot for 2 weeks.
